The Culinary Services Manager reports to the General Manager and provides leadership in all aspects of the dietary operation within established legislative and professional standards, manages human, material, and fiscal resources, and monitors the quality of care and services delivered to clients through effective quality improvement activities.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversees food services to meet resident needs and comply with regulations.
  • Manages scheduling and supervision of culinary staff, including hiring, performance management, and discipline in collaboration with the General Manager.
  • Assesses residents' dietary needs, preferences, and restrictions.
  • Executes and maintains a five-week menu aligned with the Canada Food Guide.
  • Manages the food services budget and ensures cost compliance.
  • Orders and receives food from preferred suppliers within budget.
  • Ensures meal times are enjoyable social experiences.
  • Maintains food safety and sanitation standards.
  • Ensure all culinary staff follow health and safety regulations, including proper food handling and hygiene practices.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization in all dining areas
  • Tests and ensures recipe availability for staff.
  • Collaborates with other departments to fulfill resident requests.
  • Handles human resource functions for culinary staff.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

The qualifications needed to join our family are as follows:

  • Graduate of Culinary Management, Food Service Supervision/Nutrition Management, or Food & Beverage Management, OR 3+ years of related experience.
  • Experience in volume food preparation within a retirement home, hospital, or hospitality setting.
  • Supervisory experience in a culinary environment.
  • Knowledge of therapeutic diets, geriatric nutrition, and current food standards.
  • Proficiency in food preparation, portion control, recipe conversion, and cost management.
  • Current Food Handler Certification from a recognized health authority.
  • Familiarity with Ontario Food Premises Regulation, Canada's Food Guide, HACCP, WHMIS, Occupational Health & Safety, and Public Health Inspections.
  • Budget management experience.
  • Strong leadership, communication (oral & written), and team collaboration skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel; computer literacy is an asset.
  • Highly organized, able to work independently, and committed to professional development.
  • Must pass a vulnerable sector screening (within 6 months), provide recent TB test results, and three supervisory references.
