We are seeking a motivated and reliable General Labourer to join our Ferrous Department in Ottawa, Ontario. You will play a crucial role in supporting the overall operations of our facility. This is a physically demanding role that requires attention to detail, adherence to safety protocols, and a strong work ethic.
What you're responsible for:
- Inspecting, sorting, and segregating different ferrous materials, removing any non-recyclable components
- Safely and effectively operating a forklift to facilitate the movement of materials within the facility
- Operating a front-end loader to safely receive and unload customer materials, including moving materials around the yard
- Assisting in processing metal through cutting, shearing, and shredding equipment to prepare them for further processing
- Maintaining accurate records of inventory and grading using phones or tablets
- Adhering to all safety guidelines and protocols, wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Keeping work areas clean and organized, ensuring a safe and efficient working environment
- Providing excellent customer service while working with members of the public
To join our team:
- Minimum 1 year experience as a general labour or receiver in a industrial setting preferred
- Previous experience operating a forklift for 1-2 years is required
- Willingness to learn to operate heavy equipment such as a front-end loader
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting heavy objects, standing for extended periods, and working in various weather conditions
- Demonstrated commitment to following safety protocols and procedures
- Ability to handle a fast-paced work environment, adapt to changing priorities, and perform well under pressure
- Dependable and punctual, with a strong work ethic and the ability to meet assigned deadlines
