Job DescriptionAt the County of Grande Prairie, we believe that our primary purpose is to provide quality of life in safe, viable communities. As a Community Peace Officer, you will help to promote our vision and values by enforcing select provincial statutes and municipal bylaws to carry out traffic safety, education, and enforcement programs. You will also participate in mobile patrols throughout the service area, and act as a resource for inquiries regarding bylaw and provincial statutes. Community Peace Officers receive complaints and conduct investigations, as well as collect and store evidence and attend court as required.

Community Peace Officers have:
- Interest in analyzing information
- Interest in patrolling assigned areas to maintain public safety and order; and in enforcing laws and regulations
- Interest in speaking to the public when participating in crime prevention, public information, and safety programs

- Ethics, maturity, patience, and good judgment
- Initiative and the ability to work with minimum supervision and as part of a team
Preference may be given to those applicants who have:
- Experience working with Alberta's provincial statutes and traffic enforcement
- Experience as a Police Officer, Provincial Peace Officer or Level 1 Community Peace Officer in Alberta (within the past three years)
- Training and experience with commercial vehicle weights and dimensions
- Training within the past three years in ASP baton, OC spray, and TPR (formerly PPCT)
- Training and experience with radar and laser
- Experience and training with computers and programs (such as MOVES, ROADS, CPIC and Office 365)
- Emergency vehicle operator's experience and training (EVOC) Community Peace Officer Induction Program
- Valid Class 5 Alberta Operator's License and acceptable drivers abstract
- Grade 12 diploma and two-year diploma in law enforcement, criminal justice, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
- Able to obtain Level 1 Peace Officer appointment
- Able to successfully complete an approved physical ability test (PARE)
- Able to successfully pass both RCMP and the Alberta Justice & Solicitor General and Public Security Enhanced reliability screening checks.
Additional Information
This position works a 21 day rotation - 7 days on/5 off, and 5 on/4 off, based on a 35 hour work week.
Pay Rate: $51.34 to $60.40 hourly
Compensation includes shift differential, weekend premium, double time overtime on stat holidays and the ability to bank lieu time or be paid overtime for work at special events. We offer a full Comprehensive Benefits Package, LAPP Pension, Health and Wellness Plan, 3 Weeks Paid Vacation, and paid sick time. Know your schedule a year in advance. Will include evenings and weekends, but lots of weekends and time off.
