MOSAIC is partnered with the Burnaby Division of Family Practice, the Burnaby Primary Care Network, and Fraser Health to operate the MOSAIC Community Clinic in the Burnaby Edmonds area. The clinic will support four priority populations: newcomers, new mothers and babies, homeless or under-housed individuals, as well as individuals with complex mental health. The clinic is multi-disciplinary with family doctors, nurse practitioners, administrative staff, and Allied Health practitioners.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Clinic Director, the Clinical Psychologist is responsible for providing comprehensive group and individual psycho-education and therapy services to clients and families at MOSAIC, as part of a multi-disciplinary team. Provides consultation to inter-professional staff to ensure efficient and effective delivery of family support services across MOSAIC services and at the MOSIAC Community Clinic. Provides education, consultation, and intervention to direct services staff, individual clients, and their families and caregivers. Intervention includes assessment, treatment, consultation, and follow up services. Formulates and implements care plans in collaboration with members of the MOSAIC Community Clinic team. Educates and provides consultation to clients, families and healthcare professionals including MOSAIC clinic and direct services staff regarding group and family therapy. Conducts intakes and assessments and carries al case load. Delivers in-services and presentations, and initiates, develops and carries out evaluation activities in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team. This position may be required to work at more than one site within an assigned geographic area.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain and handle confidential information appropriately, maintaining a working knowledge of best practices with applicable Acts.
  • Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC (2015) and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019).
  • Examine and assess behaviour, diagnose behavioural, emotional and cognitive disorders, counsel clients and provide therapy
  • Help clients manage physical illness and disorders
  • Counsel individuals and groups to achieve more effective personal, social and vocational development and adjustment, and offer mediation services
  • Use standard psychological tests for assessment
  • Plan intervention programs and conduct program evaluation
  • Apply psychological theory and principles regarding behaviour and mental processes such as learning, language development, memory and perception to develop treatment programs
  • Build strong relationships with clients and other interdisciplinary healthcare workers involved in the patients care plan to improve patient experience
  • Prepare summary reports to reflect relevant client insights and action plans which may include referrals or resource recommendations
  • Ensure all forms of documentation are accurate and complete
  • May participate in research design, review literature, conduct studies and publish research papers, educational texts and articles
  • May supervise students
  • Provides training and involved in training design for the treatment of patients to make lifestyle, cognitive and behavioural modifications.Modifications include but are not limited to physical activity, nutrition, stress management, sleep, medication adherence, dealing with negative emotions, enhancing well-being and problem-solving. Treatment is based on multiple evidence-based behavioural change programs which includes making small changes in all areas of cognition and behaviour.
  • Provides assessment and direct services to patients experiencing complex concerns.
  • Provides a culturally safe and trauma-informed perspective in consultation with health care team members to enable patients to access the services they need.
  • Communicates and consults with interdisciplinary shared care team regarding client care and progress.
  • Coordinates with medical and mental health providers to ensure wrap-around and comprehensive care for clients requiring a higher level of mental health assessment and treatment.
  • Provides continuing education to physicians and other health care providers to increase community capacity and understanding of behavioural and cognitive contributors to health outcomes.
  • Uses evidence-based resources, reference guides, in-services and workshops, to keep knowledge, procedures, and current certification.
  • Participates in continuous quality improvement and program evaluation activities, education sessions, team conferences, meetings, and committees.
  • Provides education and information sessions regarding mental health issues to the interdisciplinary shared care team as needed.
  • Maintains written reports and statistics and prepares written reports and clinical documentation according to established policies and procedures.
  • May deliver presentations at meetings, workshops, and symposia

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • MSc in Counselling psychology or clinical psychology from a recognized university, current registration with the College of Health and Care Professionals of British Columbia or the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors.
  • Five (5) years recent related experience within primary care, chronic health or related setting employing knowledge/understanding of cognitive and behavioural health change and demonstrated experience leading psychological interventions and consultations working within an interdisciplinary team environment, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience;
  • Valid and Satisfactory Criminal Record Check Required - Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Comprehensive knowledge of assessment and diagnosis of mental illness and of professional practice guidelines for the treatment of various disorders;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of developmental theories, family and social dynamics, treatment and behaviour management modalities and psychological testing and interpretation;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant legislation;
  • Demonstrated sound knowledge of the service delivery system at the local, health authority and provincial level;
  • DSM V multi-axial diagnosis, community response procedures, community resource utilization, and knowledge of psycho-pharmacology used in psychiatric treatment; Demonstrated comprehensive knowledge of substance use, relapse prevention and harm reduction;
  • knowledge of social determinants of health and related disparities; awareness of social, economic, political, and historical realities impacting newcomer and Indigenous communities and familiarity with the concepts of trauma and violence-informed care,
  • Ability to utilize and interpret client assessment tools
  • Ability to provide effective psychological treatment to people with various chronic health conditions.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and co-operatively with other care providers to facilitate and enhance interdisciplinary, inter-departmental, and interagency communication
  • Ability to prepare comprehensive written assessments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing; other languages an asset
  • Ability to deal effectively with others including the ability to work in a team and client-focused environment.
  • Standard office equipment; knowledge and experience with basic computer programs (EMR, Word, Microsoft Outlook).

HOURS:

full-time position (37.5 hours per week)

The successful candidate must be able to commute to our Edmonds Clinic location.

COMPENSATION: $65.00 - $77.00 per hour

BENEFITS:

A competitive benefits package is provided with contracts of at least 1 year in length and which offer a minimum of 17.5 hours of work per week.
