Job Summary:

The General Manager (GM) will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations, growth, and success of the company. This includes leading a team of employees, managing budgets, ensuring customer satisfaction, developing business strategies, and driving the companys long-term goals. The GM will also ensure that all projects are completed to the highest standard, on time, and within budget. This is a leadership role requiring exceptional operational management, business acumen, and a strong understanding of the landscaping industry to drive business growth and ensure high-quality service delivery.

Key Responsibilities:1. Leadership and Team Management
  • Staff Supervision: Lead and supervise multiple teams working across various departments: landscaping, concrete, interlock, pool installation, and snow removal. Oversee field staff, supervisors, project managers, and administrative personnel.
  • Recruitment and Training: Oversee the recruitment process, ensuring the company hires skilled professionals for each service area. Develop and implement training programs to enhance employee skills and ensure they are up-to-date with industry best practices.
  • Performance Management: Conduct regular performance reviews, set team goals, and provide constructive feedback. Address any performance issues and foster a positive, productive work environment.
  • Scheduling and Resource Management: Ensure that all teams are scheduled efficiently to meet client demands, project timelines, and seasonal needs, particularly during peak periods for snow removal and pool installations.
2. Operations Management
  • Project Oversight: Oversee all ongoing projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. This includes, but not limited to, landscaping, concrete installation, interlock projects, pool construction, and snow removal services.
  • Quality Control: Establish and enforce quality control measures for each service offered, ensuring that work meets company standards and client expectations. Regularly inspect project sites to ensure adherence to quality and safety guidelines.
  • Operational Efficiency: Develop and implement operational processes to streamline workflow, reduce costs, and improve efficiency across all service areas. Ensure the optimal allocation of resources and manpower.
3. Financial Management
  • Budgeting and Financial Oversight: Prepare and manage annual budgets for all service areas. Monitor revenue, expenses, and project profitability to ensure financial targets are met. Make adjustments to reduce costs or increase revenue where necessary.
  • Cost Control: Implement cost-control measures across the company, ensuring that materials, labor, and equipment costs are kept within budget. Negotiate with suppliers and vendors to secure favorable pricing and terms.
  • Billing and Invoicing: Oversee the billing process, ensuring that invoices are accurate and payments are collected on time. Implement strategies to minimize overdue accounts and improve cash flow.
4. Sales and Business Development
  • Client Acquisition and Retention: Develop and execute strategies to acquire new business in landscaping, concrete, interlock, pool installation, and snow removal. Build and maintain strong relationships with new and existing clients, ensuring customer satisfaction and repeat business.
  • Sales Proposals and Estimates: Work with the sales team to develop accurate and competitive estimates, proposals, and bids for clients. Ensure proposals are aligned with the companys pricing structure and capabilities.
  • Marketing Strategy: Collaborate with marketing teams to develop and implement marketing campaigns aimed at increasing brand awareness and generating leads. Monitor the effectiveness of marketing initiatives and adjust strategies accordingly.
5. Snow Removal Operations
  • Winter Operations Management: Coordinate snow removal operations, including ensuring timely service delivery during snowstorms and managing personnel schedules for snowplowing and salting.
  • Logistics and Scheduling: Plan and implement snow removal schedules, ensuring resources are available during peak snow removal periods, especially during the winter season. Ensure timely service for both residential and commercial clients.
  • Safety and Compliance: Ensure compliance with local regulations related to snow removal, such as salt usage, snow disposal, and environmental safety standards.
6. Strategic Planning and Reporting
  • Business Growth: Work with the owner/CEO to develop and implement short- and long-term growth strategies for the company. Identify and pursue new business opportunities and market segments.
  • Performance Reporting: Prepare and present regular reports on operational and financial performance to the owner/CEO. Track key performance indicators (KPIs) for each department and adjust strategies as needed.
  • Market Analysis: Monitor industry trends and competitor activities to ensure the company remains competitive and innovative in all service areas.
7. Compliance, Safety, and Risk Management
  • Safety Standards: Develop and enforce safety protocols for all aspects of the business, ensuring that work complies with OSHA guidelines and local safety regulations. Conduct regular safety training sessions for all staff.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that the company adheres to all local, state, and federal regulations across each service area. This includes labor laws, environmental laws, and industry-specific standards for landscaping, concrete, pool construction, and snow removal.
  • Insurance and Risk Mitigation: Oversee the companys insurance policies and ensure the business is adequately covered for liability, workers compensation, and other risks associated with landscaping, concrete work, pool installation, and snow removal.
Qualifications:
  • Education:
    • Masters degree in Business Administration, Construction Management, Landscape Architecture, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
    • Certifications or training in landscaping, concrete, pool construction, or snow removal are highly desirable

  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in a leadership or managerial role, with expertise in landscaping, concrete works, interlock installation, pool construction, and/or snow removal.
    • Proven experience in managing teams, budgets, client relations, and operations across multiple service areas.
    • Strong understanding of the operational needs and challenges of a business providing diverse services.
  • Skills and Competencies:
    • Exceptional leadership, team management, and interpersonal skills.
    • Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
    • In-depth knowledge of landscaping, concrete, interlock installation, pool construction, and snow removal processes.
    • Strong financial management skills, including budgeting, forecasting, and cost control.
    • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Quickbooks and other software as per the requirement of the projects.
    • Knowledge of industry regulations, including environmental and safety standards.
    • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and solve complex operational challenges
  • Additional Requirements:
    • Valid drivers license and reliable transportation.
    • Ability to work outdoors and in varying weather conditions.
    • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, or holidays during peak seasons, particularly for snow removal.
