Human Resource (HR) Generalist

Location(s): USA: Greensboro, North Carolina -or- Canada: Mississauga, Ontario

Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced human resources professional responsible for assisting the HR Manager with all aspects of the employee lifecycle within our organization, including recruitment, onboarding, performance management, employee relations, benefits administration, compliance, and training, while collaborating with the HR Department to provide strategic HR advice and support to managers and employees to ensure alignment with company goals and adherence to relevant employment laws.

Payroll & Compensation Support

  • Process bi-weekly payroll in collaboration with the Finance department.
  • Facilitate payroll functions, with Finance teammates, including commissions, allowances, and garnishments.
  • Manage and communicate garnishment notices in coordination with finance and payroll providers.
  • Validate and maintain payroll bridge files, ensuring accuracy in distribution and totals.
  • Oversee payroll tax filings and compliance in cooperation with finance.

Benefits Administration

  • Maintain and administer medical, dental, STD, LTD, and 401(k) benefits in partnership with providers.
  • Advise employees on benefit programs, coordinate enrollments, changes, and terminations.
  • Facilitate COBRA offerings and 401(k) contributions, ensuring timely processing.
  • Conduct benefit audits and assist with annual renewal analysis.
  • Resolve benefit-related issues and maintain a partnership with benefit service providers.
  • Support FMLA, STD, LTD, and workers' compensation processes, including return-to-work coordination.

HR Compliance & Record Management

  • Ensure legal compliance with federal and state HR regulations, including ACA, IRS, and ERISA requirements.
  • Maintain HR records, including NDAs, employee certifications, and government notices.
  • Coordinate ACA/IRS compliance reporting (6055/6056, 1094-C, 1095-C).
  • Oversee ERISA compliance, including Summary Plan Descriptions and Form 5500 filings.
  • Respond to SSA inquiries and manage documentation for employee claims.

HR Systems & Reporting

  • Maintain and update HRIS systems (ADP - Canada, Payfluence - US), processing employee changes.
  • Collaborate with HRIS developers to resolve system issues.
  • Develop and maintain business intelligence reports on staffing levels, hours, and key HR metrics.
  • Manage and distribute organizational charts.

Expense Reporting & Administration

  • Administer the company's expense reporting system (Expensify) and facilitate reimbursements.
  • Maintain document repositories for HR-related records.

Timekeeping & Employee Data Management

  • Oversee timesheet submissions and PTO governance.
  • Coordinate and process pay and benefit changes.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

3-6 years of progressive HR generalist experience. Strong understanding of employment laws and regulations. Proven ability to manage complex employee relations issues. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build relationships with employees and managers at all levels. Proficiency in HR information systems (HRIS) and data analysis. Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills. Ability to work independently, collaborate across varied business units, and as part of a team.

DESIRED SKILLS:

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in HR compliance, employee relations, talent management, policy review and implementation in both Canada and the United States. Additionally, fluency in French is desired to effectively support bilingual work environments and ensure seamless communication across diverse teams.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field. Relevant experience in HR functional areas of Employee Relations, Operations, and Administration as noted in job overview.
