What is the role?

As a construction Inspector, your role entails the supervision of construction activities and site operations to guarantee adherence to contractual specifications, drawings, and project requirements across all construction stages. You'll provide direction and support to junior inspectors, ensuring the meticulous maintenance of records regarding contractor activities. Collaboration with Contract Administrators, Engineers, and client representatives will be essential to ensure alignment with project plans and specifications.

In this role, your duties and responsibilitieswill include:

Conduct thorough inspections of highways, roads, and bridges construction projects in adherence to the Ministry of Transportation, Ontario (MTO) Construction Administration Inspection Task Manual (CAITM), ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and standards.

Supervise and guide junior inspectors in their duties, providing mentorship and support as they document work executed and quantities completed to facilitate accurate monthly progress reports.

Maintain meticulous and detailed descriptions of contract operations, recording the Contractors activities and progress to support monthly progress and final payments, utilizing insights from junior inspectors where necessary.

Document the actual time of construction and contractor activities, including areas of work, equipment movements, manpower allocation, and prevailing weather conditions, ensuring comprehensive records are maintained to inform decision-making processes.

Oversee and ensure the completion of all milestone inspections, documenting each in the appropriate diaries, while also managing additional diaries as directed by the Contract Administrator.

Collaborate with Contract Administrators and other relevant stakeholders in the review of project plans and specifications, offering valuable insights and recommendations based on extensive experience and knowledge of project requirements.

Champion adherence to established safety protocols and procedures, prioritizing the safety and well-being of all personnel and stakeholders involved in MTO projects, while also fostering a culture of safety within the inspection team.

Take on additional responsibilities or duties as assigned, demonstrating flexibility, adaptability, and a proactive approach to contributing to the overall success and quality of LEA projects.

Managing other related assignments within the scope of the Construction Administration practice area.

The qualifications you need:

Road Construction Senior Inspector Designation (RCSI).

Strong communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills in complex and changing environments.

Strong knowledge of Ontario legislation and the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

Proven knowledge of MTO requirements and standards.

Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and equipment.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other computer applications related to the work.

Ability to prioritize and work on several projects simultaneously with tight deadlines.

The work arrangement:

This role may require temporary relocation or travel to construction projects across Ontario. A valid Canadian drivers license and access to a reliable vehicle are required. Mileage will be reimbursed in accordance with CRA guidelines. There will be a daily allowance depending on the project site location. Additionally, strict adherence to safety protocols and regulations is imperative to ensure a secure working environment.
