Housekeeper (Retirement Home)

The Housekeeper performs a variety of housekeeping duties to ensure the residence is maintained in a safe, clean and sanitary condition.

Reports to:Housekeeping Manager

The responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to:

Cleans and disinfects all common areas including dining room, bathrooms, lounges, activity areas, offices hallways, stairways and other areas as directed; Cleans and disinfects resident suites including telephone, furniture, kitchen and washroom fixtures, walls, ceilings, lights, vents, mirrors and windows; Dusts furniture and equipment; Sweeps, scrubs, waxes, and polishes floors, using brooms, mops and/or powered scrubbing and waxing machine; Vacuums and cleans/shampoos carpeted areas; Performs cleaning duties according to established procedures; Empties and cleans all waste containers and transports garbage to designated area; Makes up beds and changes linen as required; Straightens and rearranges furnishings as directed; Maintains utility and store rooms in a tidy and sanitary condition; Reports any damaged or unusable furniture and fixtures;Clean and restock housekeeping cart;Performs laundry duties as required (sorting, washing, drying, ironing, folding and delivering clean linen and clothing); Attends in-service education sessions, staff meetings, workshops, etc. as required; Demonstrate the ability to interact effectively with co-workers, suppliers, residents and families; Performs other related duties as required.

The ability to stand for extended periods of time for up to 8hrs/day, walk short distances and maneuvering in tight spaces within resident suites, pull/push/bend/lift cleaning carts, chemical pails, etc., up to 50lbs

What we are looking for:

We prefer applicants with experience, First Aid & CPR Certificate preferred; Demonstrated ability to meet the physical and mental requirements of the position; Demonstrated ability to carry out significant amounts of lifting, bending, stooping and stretching; Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; Ability to work within a team environment; Strong problem solving and decision making skills; Detail oriented, with good organizational abilities; Demonstrated ability to prioritize and respond with a sense of urgency when required; Demonstrates consistent well-groomed and hygienic appearance; Knowledgeable in Health and Safety and sanitation regulations;

Candidates must be available to work on day shift and on weekends.
