Position Summary
The Life Enrichment Manager / Culinary Services Manager reports to the General Manager and is responsible for leading both recreational programming and culinary services within the community. This dual-role position requires an innovative and organized professional to implement engaging programs that enhance the lives of our residents while overseeing the dietary operation to ensure high-quality meal services.
Responsibilities
Life Enrichment Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and evaluate recreational programs to meet the physical, psychosocial, spiritual, and intellectual needs of residents.
- Provide opportunities for residents to participate in program planning.
- Assess individual resident needs and create personalized care plans.
- Fully utilize the Welbi platform to create and manage activity calendars.
- Ensure all resident recreation profiles are up to date in Welbi.
- Oversee and facilitate the execution of all scheduled activities, with assistance from staff and volunteers.
- Coordinate community services for residents, including Pastoral Care.
- Facilitate Residents' Council, recreation, and monthly town hall meetings.
- Manage the departmental budget.
- Supervise team members and volunteers.
- Promote a culture of emotional well-being and person-centered care.
Culinary Services Responsibilities:
- Deliver food services that comply with legislation and meet the dietary needs of residents.
- Manage schedules and oversee the work of kitchen and dietary staff.
- Conduct resident interviews to assess dietary needs, restrictions, and preferences.
- Develop and implement a five-week menu that aligns with the Canada Food Guide.
- Prepare and monitor the food services budget.
- Order food supplies from preferred vendors within budget guidelines.
- Ensure meal times are engaging social experiences.
- Maintain high standards of food safety and sanitation.
- Supervise food preparation, ensuring recipes are tested and followed.
- Collaborate with other departments to address residents' requests.
- Oversee human resource functions related to culinary staff.
Qualifications
- A community college diploma or university degree in a related recreation program preferred OR a degree in psychology, sociology, or gerontology with a certificate in recreation/activation.
- Certificates in management, gerontology, and volunteer management are assets.
- Previous experience working with seniors in a leadership role, preferably in a retirement or long-term care setting.
- Previous employment in a health care/hospitality setting is an asset.
- Culinary Management diploma, Food Service Supervision/Nutrition Management program graduate, or Food & Beverage Management certification preferred.
- Experience working with elderly populations and knowledge of therapeutic diets and nutrition standards.
- Familiarity with legislation related to recreation, health and safety, and food service regulations.
- Demonstrated leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
- Valid driver's license and access to a vehicle.
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and digital platforms such as Welbi.
- Understanding of HACCP, WHMIS, and Public Health Inspections.
- Must have a clear vulnerable sector screen (within the last 6 months), TB test results (within the last 6 months), and three supervisory references.
