Job Summary
As part of the Housing Support Services Team, the Residential Mental Health and Substance Use Worker provides support to program participants (both 1:1 and in groups), focusing on personal effectiveness, socialization, self-care, and community integration. This position will observe and monitors program participants, act as a role model and guide healthy lifestyle behaviors as well as provide support to build skills and independence. This role works collaboratively with Island Health case managers to support the needs of the individual. Program services are delivered in a building that also houses residents who are not part of the program but rather live in the building independently under the Residential Tenancy Act (RTA).

The Housing Support Services Coordinator works with tenants by:
- Personal Effectiveness: Utilize problem-solving, decision-making, communication, and interpersonal skills to support program participants effectively.
- Socialization and Recreation: Provide opportunities for program participants to engage in social and recreational activities, fostering a sense of community and well-being.
- Self-Care Skills: Assist individuals with developing and maintaining self-care skills, promoting independence and personal growth.
- Ongoing Case Management:Provide continuous support and oversight to program participants, ensuring their needs are met and progress is monitored.
- Maintaining Client Files:Keep accurate and up-to-date records of client interactions, progress, and any relevant information to ensure comprehensive documentation and effective case management.
- Care/Tenancy Plans: Develop care and tenancy plans in collaboration with Mental Health and Substance Use (MHSU) services and community resources, ensuring comprehensive support for program participants.
- Medication Support: Provide daily and individualized medication support and care plan compliance through prompting (note: this role does not involve administering or storing medications).
- Household Management: Assist program participants with prompting or cueing with household management tasks such as cleaning to maintain a safe and hazard free living environment.
- Financial Literacy: Support program participants with money management tasks, such as supporting timely bill payments and budgeting, to promote financial stability and independence.
- Community Integration: Assist program participants with accessing public transportation and integrating into the community, enhancing their independence and social connections.
- Appointment Support: Support program participants in attending appointments, ensuring they receive necessary medical and social services.
- Collaboration: Work in collaboration with Island Health case managers to support program participants within an RTA mixed-use building, ensuring integrated and comprehensive care.
- Building Strong Relationships:Establish and maintain effective partnerships with community agencies and social workers to enhance support networks and resources for program participants.
- Administrative Duties:Perform various administrative tasks to ensure smooth operation of the program. Assist the Program Manager in preparing reports for funders, ensuring accurate and timely documentation of program activities and timely documentation of program activities and outcomes.
Our ideal team member will bring the following:
- Post-secondary diploma or degree in human services plus two years of recent related experience.
- Two years recent related experience
- Or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Certification in First Aid and CPR.
- Certificate in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) or equivalent an asset.
- Foodsafe Certification an asset.
- Experience working in a residential setting an asset.
- Demonstrated experience in supporting adults with mental health and substance use challenges, leveraging a strengths-based approach to empower clients and promote recovery.

Additional Requirements
- A criminal record check including a Ministry of Justice Vulnerable Sector Clearance Letter is required prior to hiring.
- A valid class 5 driver's license is an asset
