Do you want to join a dynamic team? We are looking for two individuals to join our Niigaaniin team providing Addiction and Mental Health and Facilitation Services. If you are an out of the box thinker with a proven track record of working with Indigenous people in social services?

A. PURPOSE AND SCOPE

Under the direction of the Aaniish Naa Manager and the Director of Niigaaniin Services, the Aaniish Naa Oodenaang Enaadmaaget will work to deliver predetermined curriculum to designated sites operated under the District Social Services Administration Board (DSSAB). Those community members that receive group services which are identified as appropriate and interested in receiving additional services from Niigaaniin will be assigned to Niigaaniin Services/Aaniish Naa and will work with the existing external supports and the community member to create a service plan that includes accessing the full spectrum of supports under Mamaweswen, the North Shore Tribal Council and external partners or specialized mental health supports when appropriate either under Maamwesying or other.

They will conduct assessments of individuals (GAIN-SS, URICA, MMS, & others) to establish a starting point for service plan creation and complete full program intakes when necessary.

The Oodenaang Enaadmaaget will focus on case management support of Indigenous Individuals and offer a group delivery model that rotates curriculum to meet the needs of various individuals from various backgrounds that utilize homeless services within the DSSAB catchment area (SSM).

B. QUALIFICATIONS

Requirements:

  • It is preferred for the applicant to be a registered band member of the First Nations serviced by Niigaaniin Services, including Batchewana First Nation, Garden River First Nation, Thessalon First Nation, Mississauga First Nation, Serpent River First Nation, Sagamok Anishnawbek, Atikameksheng Anishnawbek, and Wahnapitae First Nation,
  • University Degree in Social Sciences or Social Work and/or Diploma in Social Services or Career and Work Counselling, case management, and/or equivalent work experience,
  • 2-5 years experience dealing with individuals and facilitating groups for diverse clients facing multiple barriers to employment that include addictions, mental health illnesses/challenges, criminal justice system involvement, chronic homelessness, child welfare involvement, history of trauma, grief, and loss and/or impacts of intergenerational trauma,
  • Motivational interview skills
  • Will have a valid class G drivers license and a vehicle, and
  • Provide a clear Criminal Reference Check and Vulnerable Peoples Sector Check applicable to the responsibilities of this position.

Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Knowledge and understanding of Anishnaabemowin, culture and traditions of Indigenous people of the Robinson Huron Waawiindaamaagewin,
  • Will be knowledgeable about culture and the significant characteristics of the social structures and relevant human service needs of the Anishnawbek,
  • All candidates must be able to work with a diverse population,
  • Adaptability of program materials is crucial to meet the unique and varying needs of participants,
  • The Oodenaang Enaadmaaget will be able to provide group and one to one support as needed with other team members. The team approach will ensure a backfill of services and immediate needs are met by rotating case management services and facilitation services within the team structure,
  • Familiar with addiction and mental health services and resources along the North Shore including NSTC services and programs, First Nation community resources, residential treatment centres and programs throughout the province,
  • Solid knowledge of social work theories and approaches that could assist community members to move forward towards recovery while building independence, self-esteem, and a connection to identity,
  • Ability to balance target outcomes with quality client care ensuring client centred relationships are established and sustained to meet the community member where they are at,
  • Knowledge of federal and provincial policies and legislation, regulations and/or guidelines that are relevant to the funding and delivery of Niigaaniin services,
  • Will be knowledgeable of the range of both contemporary and traditional methods of intervention, assessment, counselling, support, training, and healing that are effective in promoting community, family and individual development and well-being,
  • Ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, Zoom, Teams and familiarity with case management and case noting systems,
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills,
  • Excellent communication (verbal/written),
  • Excellent stress management and coping skills that support self-care and healthy boundary setting with community members, community partners and teammates,
  • Efficient time management skills with adherence to timelines and deadline, and multi-task in a fast-paced environment,
  • Ability to learn new skills and be flexible to adapt to changing workload,
  • Able to work independently and maintains a supportive and cooperative environment with colleagues and the communities,
  • Recording, and collecting statistical data regarding service delivery, meeting funder requirements to submit statistics on predetermined intervals, and
  • Able to work with minimal supervision.
