Reporting to the Counselling and Professional Development (CPD) Supervisor, the Intake Counsellor is responsible for providing intake assessments and clinical counselling services to the women, children, youth, men, and families accessing the CPD program of YW Calgary. This position involves identifying the most appropriate services and effective approaches for clients using evidence-based assessment tools. This role is also responsible for providing group and one on one counselling.

This position typically works 37.5 hours per week and is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. It is based at our Hub but may require some travel. The role also involves frequent exposure to individuals experiencing significant trauma, crisis, and mental health challenges.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Complete intake processes with clients referred for individual, family, and/or group counselling.
  • Determine eligibility and suitability for individual and/or group counselling using clinical assessment.
  • Provide crisis intervention, safety planning and emotional support.
  • Present clients with current and relevant information about the CPD programs available; coordinate appropriate referrals to specialized services.
  • Work collaboratively with the program support team to facilitate intakes and referrals and provide follow up communication and information to clients, staff and internal and external partners.
  • Conduct mid-service and exit-service satisfaction interviews and post-service surveys with clients.
  • Run a minimum of one prevention or treatments groups per week or as required.
  • Provide case management to clients intermittently through the group treatment process.
  • Initiate and lead case conferences when appropriate, in consultation with the clinical supervisor.
  • Offer resources and support with system navigation to community resources and referrals.
  • Provide consultation and capacity building activities for internal and external partners, on request.
  • Ensure that the group facilitators have the appropriate paperwork to complete client pre and post surveys, and satisfaction surveys feedback.
  • Coordinate and facilitate assessments and surveys an ethical and culturally sensitive manner.
  • Maintain accurate and appropriate referral and intake records, including relevant client file documentation and statistics.
  • Monitor waitlists for children, youth, and family referrals for individual, family, and group services, in consultation with program Supervisors.
  • Maintain and report on monthly clinical statistics.
  • Foster and contribute to a culture of inclusion and equity in a diverse work environment; understand and recognize that individual differences significantly contribute to YW Calgary's success.
  • Integrate equity, diversity and inclusion principles into one's role, work, and engagement with others, as aligned with YW Calgary's EDI strategy and values.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Counselling Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Social Work or related field; Masters preferred.
  • Registration with appropriate College or regulating body (recognized under the Health
    Professions Act).
  • Two or more years of experience working with women, men, adolescents and/or children, and/or families impacted by family violence.
  • Knowledge of and experience delivering evidence-based intervention related to domestic violence. Working knowledge of impacts of abuse, violence, and trauma on people across lifespan.
  • Knowledge of community resources.
  • Sound judgement, creative problem-solving and assessment skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities.
  • Completion of ASIST, NVCI, First Aid and Brain Story is an asset.
