AGS Automotive Systems is a full-service automotive supplier specializing in the manufacture and supply of complex high value-add automotive metal components, including in particular front and rear impact assemblies, principally for pick-ups and the heavy truck market. JOB SUMMARY

Completely and independently plan and perform all work necessary to make and develop any type of die (i.e. blanking dies, forming dies, draw dies or progressive dies) combining one or more of the above mentioned types of operation and other like items of the highest degree of complexity for the production of quality products. Determine from sample parts or part drawings which type of die or tool, along with its dimensions, cutting clearances and other like features as needed.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop, repair, and modify tools, dies, jigs, fixtures, and gauges as required.
  • Read related work instruction(s) and sign off same for compliance with TS16949.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, drawings and specifications of tools, dies, prototypes or models.
  • File, grind, shim, and adjust different parts to properly fit them together.
  • Cut, shape, and trim blanks or blocks to specified lengths or shapes, using power saws, power shears, rules, and hand tools.
  • Position, secure, measure and work metal stock or castings to lay out for machining.
  • Work with internal departments for design input, fabrication, and modifications to tools and dies.
  • Work with sample parts, tool design drawings, sketches, accepted best practices, oral instructions or standard tool manuals to required tolerance and performance.
  • Safely and skillfully set up, operate, and maintain all machine shop equipment.
  • Prepare sketches for machining of tool details. May suggest design changes and/or modifications of tools to facilitate construction or practicability of usage.
  • Fit and assemble parts to make, repair, or modify dies, jigs, gauges, and tools, using machine tools and hand tools.
  • Lift, position, and secure machined parts on surface plates or worktables, using hoists, vises, v-blocks, or angle plates.
  • Ensuring timely completion of repairs, new dies, tolling, fixtures, and jigs etc., as required.
  • Estimate hours required to build a complete set of tools, and break down individual hours for each detail by machine, if required.
  • Inspect and test completed tools, dies, jigs or fixtures for proper operation.
  • Perform tool and die tryout incidental to the work as required.
  • Inspect, diagnose, and repair all dyes as required.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on tools and dies.
  • Modify dies and tooling to conform to engineering changes.
  • Inspect finished dies for smoothness, contour conformity, and defects.
  • Conduct test runs with completed tools or dies to ensure that parts meet specifications; make adjustments as necessary.
  • Ability to utilize troubleshooting skills techniques.
  • Maintain a safe and tidy work area at all times contributing to the continual program of good housekeeping.
  • Be knowledgeable and adhere to safe work practices and plant rules.
    • Identify, interpret and apply applicable acts, regulations, codes and directives.
    • Recognizing, assessing and controlling hazards and hazardous conditions, equipment and material.
    • Identifying and using fire extinguishers and fire-fighting equipment.
    • Call security for first aid in emergency situations.
    • Selecting, wearing, adjusting, using and maintaining personal protective equipment.
    • Performing lockout/tagging and restricted access procedures.
  • Perform any other related duties that may be specifically or generally assigned

EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS

  • Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent.
  • Must hold a valid Ontario Certificate of Qualification issued by the Ministry of Colleges and Universities OR served a bona fide apprenticeship of 8,000 hours, or has eight years practical experience in the skilled trades' classification in which he/she claims journey person designation and can prove the same. (The Unifor journey person's card will be accepted as proof or presently holds a journey person classification as a tool and die maker).
  • Able to meet all physical demands of the job including, but not limited to, lifting heavy loads, standing for long periods of time, shift rotation, working in hot and cold environments.
