General Job Description
The Automation Manager is responsible for overseeing a group of Automation Personnel whose primary focus is performing corrective, predictive, and preventative maintenance procedures to all conveyor and controls systems, robotics, cobots, and associated scanning equipment. The Automation Manager is also responsible for skillset level-up, and improving bench strength of the Dept. with clear Metrics.

Main Responsibilities
Automation
Lead/support the installation and implementation of new robotic deployments ensuring all project results meet requirements regarding technical, quality, reliability, schedule, and cost.
Plan, develop, implement, and support Automated Manufacturing Systems to optimize cost-effective manufacturing processes and methods in accordance with product specifications and quality standards. Recommend and implement improvements to production processes, methods, and controls. Plan and coordinate manufacturing launches for new or revised product lines and equipment.
Lead improvement projects regarding Automated Systems identifying and resolving problems. Responsible for setting automated operating parameters and establish guidelines for the integration of PLCs, HMI's, etc. Assist in solving operational problems and identify areas for improvement; document history/metrics of improvements.
Support the design and implementation of control systems including, but not limited to programming, the creation of schematics, data acquisition, and testing.
Examine/plan/implement new technologies and systems and lead in the integration of those technologies and systems. (e.g., robotic systems, PLCs, Visual recognition, automated conveyance, automated product loading).
Lead and support work instructions and coordinate the training of automation employees specific to their interaction with our automated systems and assets. Oversee and track recurring/refresher training as needed/scheduled.
Setting objectives, development planning, and performance review of maintenance and automation personnel to ensure performance meets or exceeds annual business, and continuous improvement targets.
Collaborate with engineering teams in project implementation including timing, concept, feasibility, design, specifications, construction, and commissioning
Analyze, record, and chart automation metrics.
Support programming, maintenance, and troubleshooting of robots, assembly, injection, paint, etc.
Support modification of robot, PLC programs, and machine screen interfaces (HMI's) as required
Ensure robot and PLC programs are modified in a manner that maintains or improves safety and part quality
Support troubleshooting of process problems and completion of quality improvements as required to maintain part standards of quality
Qualifications

Degree or diploma in Electronics Engineering or Robotics or similar discipline; or 10+ years of Automation and/or Robotics experience
Five years of Managerial experience in a production maintenance environment leading skilled trades and PLC/Robotic associates
Demonstrated hands on experience troubleshooting, repairing and completing preventative maintenance in a fast-paced manufacturing/industrial environment
Automation programming experience required (PLCs, HMIs, Networking, Vision)
Demonstrated experience working with Hydraulics and Pneumatics
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple competing priorities in a time critical environment in an organized and effective manner
Experience with the repair of Gate, Globe, Plug and Check Valves. (Repacking, bushing and bonnet repair, gate, and seat repairs)
Proficient use of precision machinist tools and able to operate a forklift, carry deck crane, JLG, or other motorized equipment
Experience with precision shaft alignment by reverse dial indication method or laser alignment equipment, installing sole plates, and leveling
Demonstrated experience working with robots and highly automated equipment
Ability to trouble shoot and use critical thinking along with problem solving skills
Demonstrated experience with PLCs and electrical knowledge
Experience working with injection mold machines as well as paint is considered an asset
Experience working with Yaskawa is considered an asset
Demonstrated ability to lead a team and instill positivity within a team and keep them motivated
Demonstrated ability to openly communicate and delegate
Ability to read and write English
Must be willing to work Overtime when required
