Job Summary:

Tourism Burnaby is seeking a dynamic and highly organized Events and Marketing Specialist to support the planning, coordination, and execution of Tourism Burnabys signature events and marketing initiatives. This role plays a key part in ensuring the success of events such as the Burnaby Halloween Festival and Bite of Burnaby, while also contributing to broader marketing and stakeholder engagement efforts.

A critical aspect of this role involves close collaboration with the Content and Community Coordinator and the Business Information Analyst to ensure seamless content alignment across newsletters, blogs, social media, digital platforms, and data-driven marketing insights.

Key Responsibilities:

Event Coordination & Management

o Support the Festival Manager and Director of Marketing in event planning, logistics, and execution.

o Ensure smooth collaboration with venues, vendors, and partners.

o Track progress, identify challenges, and provide insights to optimize event success.

Marketing & Content Coordination

o Content & Campaign Planning: Align with the Content and Community Coordinator and Business Information Analyst on content themes, campaign performance, and key marketing timelines. Maintain a shared content calendar for event promotions, social media, newsletters, and blogs.

o Event Storytelling: Create written content for newsletters, blogs, and event descriptions. Provide key messaging to support storytelling and social content.

o Cross-Platform Strategy: Ensure cohesive marketing across event promotions, digital platforms, and stakeholder communications. Repurpose content for broader engagement.

o Influencer Strategy: Support influencer collaborations, assisting with outreach, partnerships, and content tracking.

o Social Media Support: Curate and post content on Tourism Burnabys social channels when the Content and Community Coordinator is unavailable, ensuring consistent engagement and brand voice.

o Media tracking of all Leisure, Sport, and Meetings coverage of Tourism Burnaby events.

o Maintaining events calendar on website.

Data-Driven Marketing & Content Optimization

Work with the Business Information Analyst to apply audience analytics, campaign performance, and visitor insights to event marketing.Use data from attendance, social media, and stakeholder feedback to refine content and promotions.Track and evaluate marketing effectiveness, adjusting strategies based on insights.

Website & Stakeholder Communications

Maintain accurate, up-to-date event content on Tourism Burnabys website.Collaborate with stakeholders to share event details and promotional assets.

Event Logistics & Material Management

Manage event materials, including gift bags, signage, and promotional items.Organize logistics for FAM tours, transportation, and on-site event needs.Ensure the Content and Community Coordinator has access to capture event content.Assist in the selection, coordination, and distribution of SWAG and promotional materials

Inquiry & Budget Management

Respond to event-related inquiries via the Tourism Burnaby website and other channels.Assist in updating budgets and tracking event expenditures.

General Support & Industry Engagement

Support broader marketing initiatives and participate in industry meetings.

Qualifications & Experience:

Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, Journalism, or a related field, with 2-3 years of professional experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.Excellent communication and relationship-building skills to collaborate effectively with partners, vendors, and stakeholders.Experience in content creation (newsletters, blogs, website updates) and managing a content calendar.Understanding of social media strategy and ability to assist with content posting when needed.Proficiency in digital marketing tools, including website CMS, email marketing platforms, and social scheduling tools.Experience with event logistics coordination and budget tracking.Comfortable working flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to support event execution.A valid drivers license and access to a vehicle for event-related travel.Passion for tourism, events, and destination marketing.

Benefits:

Salary range of $60,000 to $65,000 CAD

A competitive extended benefits package including vision, health, and dental is included after 90 days in the role
