Transfer Attendant - Casual
The Town of Tillsonburg is looking for two (2) Casual Transfer Station Attendants to join our Public Works Team. The successful candidate will be working on Saturdays, assisting with the day-to-day operation of the transfer station to ensure the transfer station is in compliance with all conditions of the Environmental Compliance Approval and the user needs are met and the transfer station is operated in a safe and organized manner.

Hourly rate: $24.99 - $29.23/hour
Weekly hours: as needed (no more than 10 hours weekly)
This is a part-time position with an option to enroll in OMERS defined pension plan.
Criminal Record Check is required for this position.

Responsibilities
- Direct customers to the appropriate waste bin and enforce the rules and regulations of the Transfer Station.
- Assess customer load composition and apply the appropriate charges to the customer in accordance with the approved Fees and Charges.
- Responsible for the overall cleanliness of the Transfer Station site and daily records of Transfer Station activities.
- Record keeping – Complete Daily Site Inspection Report, Complaint Report, Incident Report, Daily Waste Refusal Log, Weekly Bin Removal Report, etc.
- Abide by terms, conditions, and operating requirements of the Approval
- Ensure all personal protective equipment is used and in good working condition.
- Ensure operations are conducted in a safe manner.
- Ensuring proper safety and security of all users and guests by monitoring activities of customers and enforcing all transfer station rules and codes of conduct.
- Ensure all exterior areas of the transfer station are free of ice and snow
- Ability to perform light maintenance of the transfer station including some snow removal and shoveling and hand salting.
- Following all established workplace policies and procedures as well as all provincial and federal health and safety regulations and laws.
- Ability to lift heavy objects weighing 50-60 pounds.
- All other duties as assigned by the Roads Supervisor and/or Manager of Public Works
- Minimum grade 10 or equivalent
- Previous experience in Point of Sale purchasing and communicating with customers
- First Aid/ CPR
- WHMIS training
- Good people skills, ability to work as a team member to handle the public consistently and in a pleasant manner
- Good organizational skills
- Ability to work and learn basic software programs, applications and use of computerized equipment (i.e. cell phones, tablets, POS terminals, etc.)
- Ability to work Saturdays
