As the Benefit Specialist working from our Surrey Regional Office, BC you are responsible for administering and managing employee benefits programs, ensuring compliance with regulations, and assisting employees with benefits-related inquiries. The ideal candidate has experience in benefits administration, strong problem-solving skills, a customer-focused mindset and detail-oriented.

Responsibilities

  • Administration of Employee Benefit Program, including onboarding/offboarding and payment of premiums to benefit provider.
  • Educate employees on benefits offering, eligibility and enrolment processes
  • Monthly reconciliation of Employee Benefit Program statements
  • Assist with any benefits related inquiries
  • Process benefits enrollments, changes and termination in a timely manner
  • Audit benefit premium deductions, investigate and resolve benefit premium discrepancies
  • Work with the Benefits carriers (Equitable Life/Canada Life) and Third-Party Administrator (Effortless Admin) and broker (HUB) to manage programs effectively
  • Assist with annual open enrollment, including communication, planning and execution
  • Resolve employee benefits issues and escalate complex concerns when necessary
  • Interpret related Benefit policies, and procedures and ensure compliance with multiple collective agreements
  • Lead Dayforce implementation project for the benefits module
  • Manage benefits collection for employees on leave
  • Maintain accurate benefits records and ensure confidentiality of employee information
  • Enter benefits premiums and cost sharing in payroll (Payworks, Comvida and Dayforce)
  • Point of contact for all stakeholders at Optima for any benefits related questions
  • Advise employees, answer questions, and enroll staff in benefit and compensation programs
  • Analyze benefits data and provide recommendations for improvements
  • Stay up to date on industry trends and regulatory changes
  • Process various paperwork, especially regarding LTD, STD and employee life status changes
  • Perform quality checks of benefits-related data
  • Payroll backup for vacation coverage
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Any other benefits and payroll related tasks that may be assigned.

Qualifications and Experience

  • 2+ Years of relevant Canadian Benefits experience, Payroll related role is an asset.
  • Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) designation is an asset
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Suite and Teams
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities
  • Excellent verbal, written communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
  • Experience with Effortless Adm, ComVida, Payworks and Dayforce
  • Ability to perform under pressure and hard deadlines
  • Emotional intelligence
  • Great sense of humor
