Position Summary:
The Fibre Service Technician (FST) will report to the Fibre Service Technician (FST) Supervisor and will be responsible for identifying, troubleshooting, and resolving network-related issues in the field, including Central Offices, POP sites, On-Net buildings, and customer premises.
Additionally, this role will be primarily responsible for managing and maintaining the organization and functionality of our new hub site POPs, also known as "Neighbourhood POPs."
What you will be doing:
- Respond in an urgent and high priority manner to service-affecting issues dispatched by the NOC.
- Identify, troubleshoot and resolve all network issues in the field. This may include bit not limited to: equipment replacement, re-installing lines, re-splicing fibres or anything it takes to restore service.
- Prepare incident reports for outages.
- Assist with escalated issues regarding customer-facing diagnosis during new circuit turn-up.
- Installing and testing networking equipment and power in Data Centers, such as switches, routers, Firewalls, Wireless AP's, Patch Panels, Cable Management and UPS System incorporating safety in all aspects
- Complete non-emergency maintenance tasks in a timely manner as dispatched by NOC:
- Perform and schedule NPOP cross connects for new customers prior to installations
- Schedule and perform cross connects in all our data centres & carrier hotels
- De-provision and remove old physical circuits, and/or cross connects
- Switch Insertions
- New Equipment commissioning
- Collaborate with other team members and using OTDRs (Optical Time Domain Reflectometers) and other equipment to ensure circuits align with company standards
- Report an unsafe, poor quality, potentially service affecting, inconsistent in-field conditions or workmanship to the relevant managers.
Training and Mentoring:
- Create Installation procedures for the Technical Support team.
- Assist with, and participate in, cross-training to ensure up-to-date knowledge of Beanfield network equipment
- Helped identify systematic problems or shortcomings that occur repeatedly, and work with senior management to fix them.
Administrative Duties:
- Updating and reviewing ticket information on daily basis
- Provide probable causes to relevant managers
- Provide accurate and updated reports as required (i.e. daily, weekly, monthly etc.…)
- Modify and revise, as required.
- All other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions:
- This position requires On-call availability.
- Valid BC Driver's License is required, as this role requires some travel to various job sites.
What we are looking for:
- High school diploma with post-secondary degree or diploma in network security and/or administration.
- 2-3 years of relevant work experience as a Technical Support Representative or Installer position (preferred).
- Prior experience splicing, testing and troubleshooting fibre optic networks is an asset.
