WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Operate a tractor trailer combination unit under the direction from operational staff with very limited supervision.
- Supervise and perform the loading and unloading of freight so as to minimize damage claims; notes damaged goods prior to loading; blocks braces, secures and tarps loads as required; and maintains security of the load in transit.
- Load and unload freight using a transportable forklift
- Secure cargo on flatbed truck including tightening chains, straps and tarps using moderate physical exertion.
- Ensure the timely processing of all customs documents, bills of lading, inspection reports, driver logs and other related documentation.
- Deal directly with customers to meet their expectations and add value to the service.
- Ensure compliance with all governmental regulations.
- Ensure that the tractor-trailer combination unit meets safety and mechanical fitness standards.
- Ensure correct information is recorded in the Time and Attendance System
- Uses or operates equipment in a safe manner
- Reports defects in equipment
- Work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations
- Report any known workplace hazards or contraventions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act to their supervisor or employer
- Other duties as assigned when not required as a driver
WHAT YOU WILL NEED
- A valid Provincial class AZ drivers license
- Meet minimum medical standards for commercial drivers licensing
- Working knowledge of MOT Regulations, WHMIS, and other pertinent Provincial regulations
- Minimum five years of current verifiable tractor trailer experience
- Experience with a flatbed trailer
- Experience with safe operation of a rough terrain forklift
- Minimum competency level of grade 12 in oral and written expression in the English language
- Ability to work at heights of up to 5 feet.
- Ability to bend and twist at regular intervals to secure loads.
- Capability to climb ladders and steps at own pace
- Remain Drug and Alcohol free to perform in a Safety Sensitive functional position.
- Prolonged concentration is required to drive a tractor-trailer combination unit defensively
