About the Opportunity

The UJA Finance departments mission is to establish financial security to meet the organizations strategic objectives for our community. Our goals are to:

  • Provide financial guidance and structure for insight to improve decision-making and allow for options for better return.
  • Maximize use of organization resources.
  • Provide high level of confidence for all external and internal stakeholders.
  • Provide measurement metrics to assess of financial status and trajectory on initiatives against the strategic plan.

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Vice President, Finance will oversee the Finance operation for the entire portfolio of UJA entities, and will be a strategic facilitator responsible for cross-functional relationships between Finance and the other external- and internal-facing departments.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Partner with the CFO in the organizations strategic planning process.
  • Lead the annual budget process and forecasting for the organization.
  • Be a business partner to the organization providing financial strategies and guidance.
  • Enhance the metrics, guidelines and standards for evaluation of efficiency and return.
  • Review, analyze and evaluate finance policies and procedures and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Build financial training strategies to improve the overall financial acumen of the organization.
  • Provide the organization and stakeholders with accurate information and consistent messaging on a timely basis.
  • Oversee the reporting to the Budget and Finance and Audit committees.
  • Oversee the annual audits for the UJA group of organizations.
  • Stewardship - review and enhance controls and processes to protect and preserve the assets of the organization and mitigate risk.
  • Ensure the organization complies with internal (governance) and external (CRA) requirements.
  • Recruit, motivate, develop and retain talent to deliver impactful results; champion a flexible, agile and inclusive work environment, prioritizing health and well-being of team.

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary degree in Accounting or related field, or equivalent experience
  • Professional accounting designation - CPA preferred.
  • 10+ years relevant work experience, including 5 in a senior financial management role.
  • Previous experience managing and developing talent; passionate about helping people learn and grow.
  • Strong mentorship and management skills and ability to influence and engage direct and indirect reports and peers.
  • A team leader who can positively and productively impact both strategic and tactical finance and administration initiatives.
  • Ability to think strategically and critically.
  • Proven track record of success facilitating progressive organizational change and development within a high-growth organization.
  • Excellent judgment and creative problem-solving skills, including negotiation and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Strong decision-making and analytical capabilities with excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to quickly build rapport with colleagues, stakeholders, donors, lay leadership, community, etc.
  • Proactive with excellent organizational, prioritizing and time-management skills.
  • A self-starter able to leverage his/her knowledge, skill and experience to manage complex change from start to finish.
  • Ability to manage complex projects and budgets, working collaboratively with staff as well as with multiple stakeholders to deliver results.
  • Enthusiasm, innovation and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Maintain a high degree of discretion and confidentiality.
  • Passion for UJAs mission.

This is a full-time permanent position. At UJA we support a flexible work schedule and all of our employees engage in hybrid work. In addition to a rich time off policy, UJAs offices are closed on all Jewish holy days (yom tov) and we support early office closures to observe the Jewish Sabbath (Shabbat).
