WSIB Specialist

A service-driven paper and packaging products company, Atlantic Packaging has grown to become one of Canada's largest paper manufacturers and a leading producer of packaging products. We are looking for a WSIB Specialist in Ontario.

This is a contract opportunity for 12 months.

Summary: The WSIB Specialist provides guidance to the OHS team, managers, supervisors and employees for Return-to-Work, WSIB case management and administration.

Key Accountabilities:

WSIB Administration and Claims Management

  • Promptly report work-related injuries/illnesses to the WSIB.
  • Responsible for coordinating return-to-work activities and is knowledgeable and experienced in return-to-work coordination and disability management.
  • Provide education on the return-to-work program to workers and employers.
  • Actively case manage and monitor activities, progress, and co-operation of the workplace parties.
  • Maintain communication with the worker and supervisor throughout the return-to-work process.
  • Determine the suitability of employment and fitness to return to work.
  • Assist workplace parties to problem solve workplace issues that present an obstacle to successful return-to-work or resolve disputes that are preventing a successful return-to-work outcome
  • Advise H&S team what injuries are reportable, give advice on accommodating injuries, valid reasons for objection.
  • Reach out to injured workers to confirm modified duty offers, manage their return to work and prevent lost time.
  • Reach out to the WSIB to speak with case managers about lingering claims, objections, or unclear medical directions.
  • Work with the HR team to discuss accommodation for workers with permanent restrictions, historic claim details and duty to accommodate.
  • Work with supervisors to ensure that they are properly accommodating injured workers
  • Make sure WSIB forms are completed (modified duty offers, updated FAFs, RTW Plans or IMPs).
  • Keep claim files up to date on Intelex and locally (WSIB forms, decision letters, medical documentation)
  • Will direct TeksMed intake team on when to file a Form 7 or will complete Form 7s personally and will ensure accuracy of submitted documentation.
  • Will work with TeksMed on claim objections.
  • Will work with TeksMed RTW Team to manage claims requiring modified duties

Administrative Work

  • Monthly statistics report
  • Monthly Financials H&S PowerPoint
  • Assist with the Quarterly H&S statistics report.
  • Maintain the Safety Clock for the safety incentive program

Health and Safety Excellence Program

  • Responsible for registering and uploading documents on the WSIB portal.
  • Oversee the topics and ensure that we are meeting all the requirements to get credit for completion.
  • Follow-up with individual sites to ensure that their site has completed all necessary documentation.
  • Answer HSEP validator questions and attend audits if needed.

Requirements:

  • Ability to work full-time, hybrid
  • Minimum 2-3 years dealing with WSIB administration in a unionized environment
  • In depth knowledge of all relevant WSIB legislation and standards in the Province of Ontario
  • Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Word – Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Excellent people and communication skills
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, time management, problem solving and conflict resolution skills
