Salary: Starting at CAD$55,000

Onda is an R&D and contract service organization focused on applying biotechnologies to improve productivity, efficiency, and sustainability in aquaculture and related industries. The company combines extensive experience in aquaculture with a strong background in aquatic animal health, nutrition, and molecular biology to provide research-based solutions.

The LabTech team at Onda is responsible for developing and executing studies that functionally characterize candidate aquaculture therapeutics and feed additives, as well as advancing aquaculture-focused biotechnologies. We are seeking a Research Associate to join our lab team, working at both our Victoria and Souris, PEI, facilities.

The successful candidate will join a dynamic and motivated team to support the research needs of our global partners. This is a full-time, permanent position with an immediate start date. As a Research Associate, you will report directly to the lead Scientist.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Performing in vitro experiments for the functional characterization of antigens, feed additives, antimicrobial compounds, and disinfection regimens.
  • Generating, validating, and delivering pathogens for use in in vivo aquaculture trials.
  • Performing routine laboratory procedures, including molecular biology, bacterial and viral propagation and primary cell culture maintenance.
  • Data acquisition and reporting/verification of results.
  • Laboratory maintenance, including equipment calibration and qualification, and thorough record-keeping.
  • Ensuring and maintaining an efficient, clean, and safe working environment.
  • Communicating and collaborating effectively with all team members to ensure a cohesive and efficient research environment.
  • Developing and revising Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Providing training for staff in the proper use of specific SOPs.
  • Fulfilling any additional duties as required within the general scope of the role.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • A minimum of a BSc (or similar) in a relevant field. A postgraduate degree and/or applicable industry or research experience would be considered an asset.
  • Experience with molecular biology, tissue culture cultivation, and/or microbiology techniques would be considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and execute multiple projects concurrently, ensuring timely completion.
  • Service-oriented approach with a strong commitment to ensuring client satisfaction.
  • Physical ability to handle routine and repetitive tasks, as well as working with zoonotic pathogens.
  • Experience working in a regulatory environment in compliance with standard operating procedures. GxP experience would be considered an asset.
  • Proven ability to work both independently and as part of a team, demonstrating self-motivation and initiative.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours to accommodate the needs of ongoing experiments.
