We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Electrical Engineer to join our team. As an Electrical Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing electrical systems and components for various projects on minerals processing plants. Your role will involve collaborating with other discipline engineers, designers, sub-contractors, and vendors to ensure that electrical systems meet the required specifications, codes, and standards. Your technical expertise and problem-solving skills will contribute to the successful completion of projects within budget and on schedule.
Key Responsibilities:
- Specify, design and develop electrical systems (medium voltage and low voltage), including power distribution, lighting, control systems, and wiring layouts for a wide range of projects.
- Prepare and review technical drawings including, but not limited to motor schematics, electrical room and electrical equipment layouts, cable tray layouts, lighting design, grounding drawings and design, conduit design and layouts, interconnection diagrams, junction box details, network diagrams, loop wiring diagrams, and installation details.
- Prepare and review bills of materials and equipment specifications / datasheets.
- Collaborate with project teams, engineers, sub-contractors, and vendors to understand project requirements, constraints, and objectives.
- Prepare and review technical drawings, schematics, and specifications using Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software.
- Conduct site visits to assess existing electrical systems and gather relevant data for design purposes.
- Select appropriate electrical equipment, components, and materials based on project specifications, cost considerations, and collaboration with vendors.
- Create and review electrical system documentation, such as bills of materials, technical reports, and installation instructions.
- Coordinate with sub-contractors and vendors to obtain necessary materials and ensure smooth project execution.
- Participate and oversee commissioning activities at sites.
- Assist in the preparation of project cost estimates and proposals.
- Troubleshoot electrical system issues and provide technical support during installation, testing, and commissioning phases.
- Stay updated with industry trends, advancements, and emerging technologies related to electrical design and implementation.
- Adhere to safety protocols and promote a culture of safety within the organization.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
- Bachelor's degree or diploma in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related field.
- Having a professional engineering status in Ontario or other Canadian jurisdictions, or the ability to obtain it is a requirement for this position.
- Proven experience working as an Electrical Engineer or in a similar role.
- Strong knowledge of electrical design principles, codes, and standards (e.g.IEEE, CSA, CEC, IEC).
- Proficiency in Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software for electrical design, such as AutoCAD, Revit, or similar tools.
- Proficiency in 3D modelling software for electrical and instrumentation design, such as AutoCAD, Revit, or similar tools.
- Solid understanding of electrical equipment, components, and materials used in building systems.
- Ability to read and interpret architectural and engineering drawings.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, sub-contractors, and vendors.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Familiarity with sustainable design practices and energy efficiency concepts.
- Knowledge of instrumentation and controls will be an asset.
