Location: CNRL Horizon

Schedule: 7 on / 7 off

Role Summary:

The Lead Hand position is responsible of the overall field operation by ensuring that all employees meet or exceed established guidelines set for standard performance. The Lead Hand reports directly to the Supervisor.The Lead Hand is responsibility for the on-shift operation of the assigned site, ensuring that all employees meet and exceed established guidelines set for performance and safety. The Lead Hand is also responsible for the minute-by-minute operation of the assigned site by organizing and supervising work and workers to achieve results.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Supervise, coordinate, and schedule the activities for construction workers, such as heavy equipment operators, machine operators, and labourers.
  • Maintain physical asset security and condition.
  • Assign work to employees, based on job requirements, special job site conditions, and available equipment, material, and worker qualifications.
  • Conduct and/or attend worker lineup and safety meetings. Ability to speak in an open form in front of a large audience.
  • Oversee and approve Job Hazard assessments (JHA) and work progress to verify conformance to safety standards and personal work.
  • Conduct training for reporting personnel.
  • Demonstrate and explain use of equipment as required.
  • Evaluate operators on equipment used as required.
  • Conduct performance evaluations for employees.
  • Analyze organizational operating and safety practices and procedures.
  • Develop safe work assignment plans as necessary.
  • Inspect project operations and site to determine specification compliance.
  • Maintain production and work records.
  • Monitor worker performance.

Education & Experience:

  • Completion of Leadership for Safety Excellence Certification is a must
  • Ground Disturbance Certificate is a must
  • CSTS, OSSA, or OSSA BSO is a must
  • Valid Class 5 Drivers License with clean abstract
  • Standard First Aid and CPR, H2S Alive is an asset
  • Knowledge with computers (Microsoft Office, Word and Excel)
  • Judgment and decision-making: considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate
  • Excellent communication and Customer Service skills
  • Problem sensitivity: the ability to tell when something is wrong or likely to go wrong. This does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing when there is one.
  • Physical capabilities: Ability to drive to locations, observe operations, listen and actively participate in communicating effectively with employees, customers, and management.
  • Must be able to work in a variety of conditions including, but not limited to: field office, field earth-moving, road maintenance, and trucking environments.
