As a member of the Facilities team at YW Calgary, this position will be responsible for the general upkeep of YW Facilities both internally and externally. This role will be responsible for general and preventative maintenance duties such as janitorial duties, painting, plumbing, building repairs, YW Policies and procedures and Occupational Health and Safety standards as required.

This position is a full-time permanent position working 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Some evening or weekend work may be required based on operational need. This position is not eligible for a hybrid work arrangement.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Monitor, inspect and maintain building systems such as heating, electrical, mechanical and security systems where necessary
  • Complying with City of Calgary and ABSA codes and regulations.
  • Daily inspection of common areas, including the outside grounds to ensure good appearance of the property (e.g., pick up any large garbage pieces, ensure that there is no major damage to the common areas, etc.)
  • Ensure electrical and mechanical systems are fully operational and inspected according to best practice standards, regulatory requirements and manufacturers' guidelines
  • Conduct minor electrical and plumbing work, such as changing light bulbs both internally and externally.
  • Undertake minor repairs and maintenance to building (ex. Plumbing, electrical, dry wall, painting)
  • Liaise with various personnel and contractors hires and ensure proper repairs are being performed satisfactorily
  • Work with various mechanical equipment including pumps, motors, fans, heating coils, etc.
  • Regular inventory and upkeep of supplies, tool and equipment.
  • Respond to building work requests and emergencies in a proper, and timely fashion
  • Troubleshooting problems under minimal or no supervision
  • Foster and contribute to a culture of inclusion and equity in a diverse work environment; understand and recognize that individual differences significantly contribute to YW Calgary's success in its programs and workplace.

  • Report any hazards or incidents immediately to your leader in accordance with YW Calgary's incident reporting requirements to help ensure pro-active risk mitigation and management in compliance with legislative requirements (Occupational Health & Safety, Workers' Compensation Board, etc.)
  • Use all safety materials, equipment, devices, and tools required to safely perform work in alignment with YW's role and task requirements.
  • Share individual accountability to create and maintain an inclusive environment the fosters a physical and psychologically safe workplace. Actively participate in the implementation of the National Standard for Psychological Health & Safety and integrate into all work practices and interactions with colleagues.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING:

  • A clear Police Information Check, including a Vulnerable Sector Search, and an Intervention Record Check is required upon commencement of employment.
  • Three to five years' experience in facilities maintenance
  • Power Engineer Class 4 required
  • WHMIS, valid First Aid required
  • Flexibility in hours worked, may be some evening or weekends
  • Be available at multiple work sites (Hub, Crisis Shelter and Taylor Family Home)
  • Working in all-weather elements, outside, inside and outside facilities work
  • Experience working with boilers, chillers, HVAC, etc.
  • Experience with light trade work (Plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, locksmith, etc)
  • Ability to operate snow removal, grass cutting equipment
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • This role is physically strenuous, requires lifting up to 50 lbs, moving office furniture, equipment, supplies
