Position Overview:
A dynamic law firm in downtown Hamilton is seeking aLitigation Associatewith 3-5 years of experience to join its litigation department. This role will encompass estate litigation, commercial litigation, and general litigation work. Key Responsibilities:
- Litigation & Case Management:
- Manage a diverse caseload, including estate disputes, commercial litigation, and general litigation matters.
- Draft pleadings, motions, affidavits, and other legal documents.
- Develop strategies, provide client advice, and represent clients in negotiations, mediations, and court appearances.
- Estate Litigation:
- Handle will challenges, estate disputes, and power of attorney matters.
- Represent clients in estate-related litigation, including settlement discussions and court proceedings.
- Commercial Litigation:
- Advise clients on commercial disputes involving contracts, business torts, partnership disagreements, and shareholder disputes.
- Manage commercial litigation cases from pre-litigation to resolution, including trial preparation and advocacy.
- Client & Relationship Management:
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, providing clear, actionable legal advice.
- Guide clients through the litigation process and ensure they are kept informed.
- Mentorship & Collaboration:
- Mentor junior associates and collaborate with senior colleagues on high-profile cases and firm-wide litigation initiatives.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Experience:Minimum of 3-5 years in litigation, particularly with estate and commercial litigation.
- Case Ownership:Proven ability to manage cases from start to finish, including trial preparation and client communication.
- Analytical & Strategic:Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills to develop case strategies.
- Client-Focused:Excellent communication skills with a client-oriented approach.
- Adaptability & Independence:Ability to work independently while collaborating with a team of legal professionals.
- Technical Skills:Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and legal case management software (PCLaw, eCore experience is a plus).
