The Safety Administrator provides support to the Cando Safety Department through the evaluation, data entry and analysis of information to validate processes outlined in the Cando Safety Management System. The Safety Administrator provides support to the Cando Safety Department through the evaluation, data entry and analysis of information to validate processes outlined in the Cando Safety Management System. Further duties also require managing records and registries, logistics and formulating reporting data.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Lead the ongoing development, administration, and review of the company's Safety Management System (SMS); ensure materials are accurate, current, and contain site specific information for each user group.
  • Assists and supports Safety Officers and Managers in administrative and technical tasks related to monitoring, logistics, development and execution of the Safety Management System components and initiatives.
  • Monitor the progress of training activities related to the SMS and ensure all objectives are met through development, recording and monitoring of software systems
  • Assemble and manage statistical data analysis and reporting in a scheduled and on-demand basis to support monitoring trending behaviours.
  • Exchanges and submits information to internal and external parties in an appropriate, timely manner requiring good verbal and written communication skills; utilizing email, phone skills, and presentation skills through software technology and registries
  • Perform safety audits independently and in conjunction with site managers and employees; use findings to determine learning and implementation gaps to meet SMS requirements including safe work procedures
  • Conduct reviews and submission to data portals all safety & training records
  • Manage third party safety registries and audits
  • Assists with design of safety related materials through Microsoft Office suite software

Skills, Knowledge, & Abilities

  • Understanding of the elements within legislated Safety Management Systems and Occupational Health and Safety
  • Considerable knowledge of modern principles, practices, and techniques for administering and delivering training and programs
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing with people of all backgrounds and levels of comprehension
  • Demonstrated report writing experience
  • Ability to take initiative on tasks and work independently within deadlines
  • Demonstrated organizational and time management skills
  • Personable and able to demonstrate initiative to work with others and to foster a respectful workplace among all levels of Cando's structure
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook with the skill to adapt easily to other software systems
  • Knowledge of railway operations procedures, auditing, transload processes and/or railway engineering and mechanical practices is an asset

Education & Experience

  • Demonstrated technological and organizational background in managing databases, statistical analysis and report writing skills
  • Five (5) years' experience in an administrative support role
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize software systems to manage databases, perform statistical analysis
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task
  • Experience working independently within deadlines
  • Excellent attention to detail skills and ability to problem solve
