POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Director of Industry Engagement (responsible for Mitacs national Major/Strategic Accounts, sector strategies, and industry ecosystem engagement), as well as working closely with the national Ecosystem Partnerships and Government Relations teams, this position will be strategically placed to support all Mitacs programs, and with particular emphasis on the Mitacs Accelerate program.

The successful candidate should be a self-motivated field-oriented independent professional with solid business development and account management skills, business experience, and a strong research background. They will be confident and proficient in dealing with key stakeholders from government, industry, and academia, and will possess a commitment to putting in place a strategy for, and facilitating the development of, multi-disciplinary industry-academic collaborations with diverse partners.

By interacting with companies ranging from small- to medium-sized enterprises (SME) to Fortune 500 companies, the candidate will provide guidance to their research plans or make recommendations on contributions to research projects, with an aim to improving the companys productivity, profitability, and growth through adoption of Mitacs programs. The candidate will also interact with academic researchers to understand their research interests, help connect them with companies seeking academic research expertise, and assist with the preparation of proposals seeking Mitacs support.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage relationships with key stakeholders, including industry partners, industry organizations and associations
  • Interact with companies for the purpose of establishing industry/academia collaborations for advanced research and innovation projects Create and maintain a network of partners in the private and public sectors
  • Constantly formulate new strategic partnerships for Mitacs and provide business development support to all Mitacs programs
  • Act as lead strategist for business development related activities in industrial sectors of focus. Establish expectations and timelines for deliverables, assess progress, and measure the success of activities.
  • Work with companies and industry sectors to put in place an innovation roadmap to support their applied research needs with academic institutions across Canada

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Demonstrated abilities to develop complex relationships with industry, government, and academic sectors
  • Experience networking with senior stakeholders
  • An understanding of international partnerships
  • Ability to develop and manage industry sector approach strategies
  • Strong analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • A graduate degree is strongly preferred
  • Possess a strong network within Canada, encompassing industry, academia, and government
  • A valid drivers license and the use of a vehicle. Candidate must be prepared to travel to represent Mitacs and promote its programs
  • A self-starter who is comfortable working in a team setting
  • Knowledge of written and spoken English is required in this role as you will interact with colleagues, clients and stakeholders located across Canada

Special consideration will be given to candidates who:

  • Are based in Toronto or are strongly involved with the Toronto innovation, industry, and industry association ecosystem
  • Have 3 to 5 years of relevant account management and partnership development experience
  • Are familiar with the Financial Services / Banking, Fintech, Life Sciences, Cleantech, or Agriculture sectors (strong asset)
  • Are knowledgeable of support opportunities to companies and academic faculty undertaking research

Hiring Range: $86,480 - $101,175

The salary range refers to the range of base salaries for a given position, encompassing the minimum and maximum amounts. The midpoint of the range is positioned approximately halfway between the minimum and maximum, indicating a fully qualified employee with comprehensive job knowledge and experience for the role.

Only in rare and exceptional circumstances, where a candidate has the experience, skills, and expertise that far exceed those required for the position, would we consider paying above the hiring range for this role.
