Key Responsibilities:
- Provide therapeutic counseling (group and 1:1), couples counseling, and addiction treatment based on current best practice clinical therapies and practice guidelines to individuals, couples, families, and groups within the Waycobah First Nation community.
- Provide referrals to therapeutic counselors off-reserve when requested or when there are no foreseeable openings for counseling sessions.
- Maintain an overview of the mental health needs of the community.
- Collaborate with the Health Director to mitigate crisis situations within the community.
- Provide referrals to emergency crisis services within NSHA.
- Maintain statistics on clients and services provided, and submit a yearly statistical report to the Health Director.
- Coordinate the counseling and wellness program activities of the Health and Wellness Centre.
- Document all suicide interventions and communicate potential crisis situations that are beyond the scope of practice with the Health Director.
- Develop and implement wellness programs as needed, collaborating with other community resources such as the Family Resource Centre, The Family Healing Centre, the school, etc.
- Coordinate and participate in community events that foster community healing.
- Participate in the Waycobah Interagency Committee.
- Participate in the development and implementation of a crisis response protocol and procedures for Waycobah First Nation.
- Attend all Health Centre Staff clinical rounds.
- Consult with community elders on an as-needed basis.
- Participate in ongoing professional development programs and events.
- Provide 1:1 counseling and relationship counseling.
Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Social Work or Psychology.
- Excellent communication skills.
- 3-5 years of counseling experience at the master's level.
- Ability to work independently.
- Strong team player.
