THE ROLE
STRIVE has partnered with a leading real estate private equity firm to recruit a highly skilled and motivated Controller. This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic and entrepreneurial team committed to creating a lasting social impact through investments in affordable multifamily housing. Based in downtown Vancouver, this role offers the chance to work in a collaborative, high-performing environment while driving financial excellence.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversee day-to-day accounting activities, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger maintenance.
- Support the preparation of internal financial reports, budgets, and cash flow models.
- Manage the issuance of external reporting, including quarterly financial statements, NAV statements, and investor notices.
- Oversee fund operations, including fund-level accounting and maintaining receivables and payables.
- Prepare quarterly management fees, capital calls, and distributions.
- Lead the year-end audit process, coordinating reconciliations, preparing working papers, and liaising with external auditors.
- Provide financial support to the asset management team, including reviewing monthly property reports and external reporting.
- Support tax compliance requirements in collaboration with the internal tax team.
- Develop and maintain accounting policies and procedures to improve internal controls and streamline business processes.
- Manage investor relations, responding to inquiries and ensuring timely and accurate communication.
- Lead and mentor junior staff, fostering development, accountability, and a strong team-oriented culture.
QUALIFICATIONS
- CPA designation with a minimum of 5+ years of progressive experience.
- Strong attention to detail and exceptional organizational abilities.
- Proactive problem-solver with the ability to analyze complex financial information and develop strategic solutions.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to present financial matters clearly and concisely.
- Ability to multitask and manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Leadership skills with a passion for mentoring and developing team members.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel is preferred.
