The Role
We are currently looking for a safe and reliable Yard Hand for our shop located just NE of Fort Saskatchewan, AB. The day shift crew works 6:30 am - 4:30 pm, Monday - Thursday. Future project requirements may require additional overtime and work on weekends.
The Yard Hard is responsible for transporting a variety of materials, parts and finished products to assigned locations using mainly 1 tonne company trucks or larger. They will be responsible for hooking up trailers (dump, goosenecks, flat decks), loading and unloading, rigging as required and using various equipment like forklifts, zoomboom, loader and skid steers to organize and maintain the shop and yard. May be overnight deliveries out of province to our various job locations.
Compensation/Benefits
- Compressed work week schedule - 4 x 10's Competitive hourly wage, negotiable, based on experience. Overtime after 40 hours per day.
- 6% vacation pay and 4% stat holiday pay on all regular hours

Responsibilities/Duties
- Following our NSC federal regulation program
- Loading and unloading trucks
- Completing a daily HOS log books and submitting mileage reports
- Conducting daily vehicle inspections and reporting any problems
- Complying with company and government regulations and rules
- Securing cargo and dealing with any hazardous materials safety, as needed
- Communicating to dispatchers and other drivers using onboard radios or computers
- Transport loads using various types of trailers
- Help maintain organization in the shop and the yard by organizing material and inventory
- Use forklifts, skid steers, zoom booms, loaders and other machinery to move materials, shovel snow and maintain grounds.
- Miscellaneous duties as assigned by the supervisor including labor, housekeeping, cleaning vehicles, trailers, etc.
Key Skills/Competencies
- Excellent communication both written and verbal
- An outstanding driving record without any accidents or major traffic violations
- Ability to adapt to changing road conditions, troubleshoot equipment and find new routes when needed
- Strong work ethic & positive team attitude
- Reliable and able to work independently
- Perform well under pressure and meet tight deadlines
- Previous experience transporting and hauling equipment and materials using trailers
- Picker truck operator experience considered an asset
- Telehandler operator experience considered an asset
- Skid steer/loader experience considered an asset
Experience/Education/Qualifications
- 5+ years of driving experience in various weather conditions in a similar role required
- Minimum of a class 5 driver's license required
- Class 1 or class 3 driver's license considered an asset
- Airbrake's endorsement considered an asset
- Clean driving record
- Truck and trailer experience required
- Must have previous experience in a similar setting and industry
- Must be able to to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test
