Job DescriptionPosition Overview: Reporting directly to the Department Head - Chemistry, the Validation Analyst will provide technical support and analysis within the Cosmetics Testing Laboratory. This is a high-pressure, deadline-based work environment with ongoing projects for a variety of clients. The Validation Analyst will be responsible for executing routine and non-routine analysis, preparing samples, managing instrumentation, and compiling data for reports.
The Validation Analyst will have experience handling instrumentation and will be able to work independently with minimal supervision. The incumbent must be organized, flexible, and able to interact effectively with customers and staff while remaining proactive, resourceful, and efficient in a fast-paced setting. A high level of professionalism and confidentiality is essential in this role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Drafting and revision of protocols and validation reports for cosmetic product testing.
- Prepare samples and mobile phases for testing, ensuring accurate setup and handling of equipment.
- Execute and support validation tests for cosmetic formulations, ingredients, and testing protocols, ensuring all required materials and standards are available.
- Operate instrumentation, including HPLC systems (familiar with Chromeleon™ software), GC-MS and perform routine analyses under GMP and GLP guidelines.
- Review and compile data, interpret test results, and prepare detailed validation and lab reports, including recommendations for improvements.
- Manage multiple systems and sample runs daily, ensuring timely execution of tests and meeting project deadlines.
- Monitor and ensure the validation of analytical methods used in cosmetic chemistry across various testing departments, such as stability, calibration, and microbiology.
- Collaborate with the lab manager to guide the validation and development of testing methods, ensuring proper documentation and adherence to quality objectives.
- Support troubleshooting of instruments and methods, ensuring smooth lab operations and minimal disruptions.
- Participate in training new employees on lab techniques, equipment operation, and quality standards for cosmetic testing.
- Work on improving adherence to the quality system, promoting a culture of continuous improvement, and maintaining compliance with regulatory bodies.
- Participate in automation and robotics projects for cosmetic testing procedures, in collaboration with the lab manager.
- Ensure accurate reporting in lab books and proper documentation for all tests performed.
- Participate in routine and release testing
- Assist with any additional tasks or responsibilities needed to support lab operations and meet deadlines.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Proficient in operating instruments or equipment, with experience in HPLC, GC and other analytical techniques.
- Knowledge of wet chemistry techniques, and the ability to troubleshoot instruments and methods.
- Experience with routine and some non-routine testing methods, ensuring accurate data interpretation.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, remaining proactive and resourceful in a fast-paced environment.
- Familiar with GMP, GLP guidelines, and cosmetic testing; familiarity with USP an asset.
- Strong written communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear and accurate lab reports.

Qualifications – Education:
- A B.Sc. degree preferably in Chemistry, or diploma in related field;
- A solid background and understanding of Chemistry is mandatory;
- Computer proficiency - Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
Experience:
- 3-5 years working in chemistry-related industries;
- Experience working with cosmetics;
- Experience working in a contract laboratory considered an asset.
Working Conditions: This position will be working in a laboratory environment where standing is required for greater than 50% of the time to work at the bench for analyses. Light lifting requirements of no more than 20 lbs.
