Position Title: Senior Surveyor

Reporting to the Manager, Technical Services or designate, the Senior Surveyor will work closely with the Operations and Projects teams to oversee all field surveying activities and geospatial data management. This role will be responsible for managing all survey services provided to the mining team, ensuring accurate and timely data collection. The Senior Surveyor will lead the survey department, providing expert and accurate survey guidance in compliance with engineered drawings, industry best practices, and established surveying principles. Additionally, they will ensure that all surveying tasks are performed efficiently, safely, and in accordance with project requirements.

Position Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

• Comply with the requirements of the health and safety guidelines, policies, and rules for the Eskay Creek site.
• Promote a safety leadership culture by ensuring that safety practices are followed in accordance with Skeena's health and safety policies.
• Actively seek opportunities to recognize health and safety hazards, resolve safety issues, and work to mitigate associated risks in the workplace.
• Responsible for writing and developing appropriate industry standard survey procedures and instructional references for survey staff.
• Responsible for the development, training and mentoring of survey crew members.
• Oversee a team of staff and/or contractors responsible for survey activities at the Mine and the main point of contact for survey department.
• Complete understanding of the use of survey equipment, its routine maintenance, and regular quality analysis.
• Maintain and lead the development of weekly as-built maps of active mining zones and development areas ensuring accuracy of as-built data.
• Prepare project as-built drawings, regular progress drawings, isopach maps and field construction drawings for Construction and Engineering teams.
• Conduct volume calculations and data analysis of critical infrastructure highlighting design deviations.
• Perform regular audits of survey data and maintain accurate record keeping.
• Work with and communicate closely with project managers, construction managers, project and mine operations team members, contractors and other site personnel.
• Interpret Engineering drawings and conveying engineering details to Operations and Project teams.
• Provide field guidance for Projects and Operations by staking operational limits, performing topographical surveys, field fit designs and provide any underground and overhead utility reference points for construction activities.
• Oversee the inventory of all survey materials and collaborate with procurement to maintain a sufficient stock level.
• Assist Geology with material type identification (PAG/NAG, Ore/Waste) and staking in field.
• Assist Drill and Blast crew with drill hole staking and drill pattern preparation.
• Survey underground utilities as required and maintain an accurate infrastructure as-built map
• Conduct aerial drone survey of the mine site.

The Ideal Candidate:

Academic/Education Requirements:

• A Diploma in Surveying, Geomatics or equivalent experience.

Required Skills/Experience:

• A Minimum of 10 years of directly related experience is required.
• Able to work independently with minimal supervision
• Mining/Industrial experience is essential.
• Strong computer skills including use of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Access, PowerPoint etc.), GIS programs (ArcGIS); experience with 3D mine modeling software (AutoCAD, Deswik).
• Knowledge and experience working with RTK GPS equipment and surveying software.
• Effective time management, planning and communications skills.
• Ability to prioritize and adapt to changing priorities and deadlines.
• Ability to work under pressure and maintain a calm focus during hectic periods.
• Adaptable to change, ability to operate in less than perfect conditions and with less than perfect information at times.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work in a team environment or individually.
• Ability to work with minimal guidance (Must be self-directed).
• Must have past demonstrated experience in helping build a strong safety culture, as well as awareness of, and adherence to, all required health and safety best practices Must be able to work a rotational schedule in a remote mining camp.
• Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

Work Location & Conditions

This is a site-based camp job at Eskay Creek Mine site. This position involves working at a remote mine site on a 15 days on/13 days off rotation.
The Eskay Creek Revitalization Project is located within the Coast Mountains of Northwestern British Columbia and Tahltan Territory. Ground transportation will be provided from local communities to the Eskay Creek Site facilities. For those applicants located elsewhere in western Canada, flight transportation from major urban centers will be provided to the Terrace or Smithers airports, from which shuttles will provide transportation to the Eskay Creek Camp facilities. Travel time and expenses are subject to Skeena's Travel Policy.
There will be exposure to extreme temperatures in all seasons including working outdoors in snow, mud, ice, and water conditions, walking to and from different locations on uneven ground, prolonged periods of standing and physically handling/lifting/moving heavy objects.

Compensation

The expected salary range for this position is CA$85,000 - CA$100,000, in line with the competitive job market for rotational-shift roles carried out in remote locations in British Columbia. Salary ranges are guidelines and any job offer received by a candidate will be determined on a number of factors such as relevant education, training, and/or experience.
