Job DescriptionResponsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Technical oversight of laboratory in the designated area and assists in providing general oversight of the Core Lab, Microbiology and specimen receiving area
- Assists in planning, organizing and coordinating workflow and processes to ensure alignment with best practices
- Ensures daily work is completed according to established departmental policies and procedures
- Monitors work, prioritizing workload and respond effectively to changing demands
- Assists Lab Manager and Lab Quality Manager in the development, implementation and ongoing review of the discipline specific Quality Management System ensuring compliance with IQMH accreditation requirements.
- Participates in the development of quality indicators, monitoring trends and takes appropriate actions based on indicator performance
- Participates in quality and safety audits and assists in instituting corrective actions where required and monitors effectiveness
- Documents incidents, takes appropriate actions, follows up with staff and submits incident reports to the Laboratory Manager
- Establishes, maintains and monitors quality assurance and quality control for designated areas, participates in troubleshooting, investigates discordant external quality assurance results, resolves issues, implements corrective actions and monitors their effectiveness
- Oversees and orders inventory levels to ensure adequate stock and supplies.
- Develops, reviews and updates technical manuals in the document control system
- Ensures all equipment in designated areas is properly maintained
- Oversees and initiates evaluation of new technology, methods and procedures and provides guidance in implementation
- Collaborate with other charge technologists in the development and implementation of new policies and procedures
- Identifies opportunities for process improvement, minimizes waste and improves efficiencies
- Trains and teaches technical staff in designated areas
- Oversees student teaching program in the Department
- Assists in conducting regular staff meetings to share information, discuss issues and promote team building
- Assists in ensuring hospital and departmental policies and procedures are adhered to and assists in the development and review of Policies and Procedures with recommendations for changes and improvements as required
- Maintains and enforces established safety regulations and participates in the development of enhanced safety procedures as required
- Provides investigation, development, recommendation, implementation and training associated with new methods and new technology
- Provides strong technical support, consultation, and interpretation in all aspects of Preanalytical, Specimen Procurement and referred out
- Performs bench work as required.
- Represents the department, and when appropriate, the organization on various internal and external committees
- Administer scheduling and payroll for designated area
- Maintain referred-out testing and receiving area
- Facilitate specimen collection procedures and provide support for Lab Assistant duties as needed
- Maintains current knowledge of professional standards, legislation and requirements
- Support management in the development of operational and corporate budgets and provide statistics and analyses related to department as required
- Recommend and assist in the planning of educational opportunities and the use of educational resources within the laboratory service across all three hospitals
- Other duties as assigned by Manager

- Current Medical laboratory technologist registration with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario required
- Recent clinical experience of 6 years as a Medical Laboratory Technologist
- Recent experience with scheduling required
- Experience with laboratory automation and Meditech is an asset
- Previous supervisory experience required
- Must be capable of functioning well in a high-stress environment
- Demonstrated excellence in laboratory Quality Control theory, practice and troubleshooting.
- Demonstrated knowledge of IQMH Quality Systems and Quality Assurance procedures
- Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to prioritize work, adapt to changing priorities and to meet deadlines.
- Demonstrated excellence in interpersonal and customer service skills, within and external to the laboratory setting
- Teaching/training experience an asset
- Must be able to work independently or in a team setting; demonstrated self-direction
- Proven ability to motivate staff, promote teamwork
- Demonstrated written and oral communication skills
- Must be capable of adapting to changing priorities, deadlines and procedures.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Word and Excel.
- Experience with the Meditech Expanse platform.
- Continuing education relevant to area of responsibilities as outlined

Status: Permanent Full-time
Hours: Monday to Friday - 7.5 hour day shifts; 0800 - 1600 (Hours are subject to change based on operational needs)
Salary: $44.660 TO $56.300 per hour
