ABOUT THE ROLE:
PRT is seeking a full-time Forest Seedling Operations Manager to be based in Spallumcheen, British Columbia, at PRT Armstrong. The Operations Manager is responsible for the planning, organizing, and control of the daily activities involved in seedling production. This includes directing personnel in accordance with operational work plans and cultural requirements and continuous oversight and review of nursery productivity to improve or remove any unnecessary labour and waste from the system.
The driving force of implementation and execution of PRT's Strategy is rooted in the personal core values of stewardship and safe-guarding of the well-being for our People, Customers, Assets, Environment, and Capital.
Key Accountabilities of the Forest Seedling Operations Manager:
- Supervise greenhouse and open compound seedling production
- Assist the Nursery Manager with planning and achieving production targets
- Develop and implement a nursery operational work plan to meet the cultural plan as set by the crop production team
- Personnel management on a day-to-day basis
- Ensure proper maintenance of the facility and equipment
- Finalize Inventory
- Keep neat and accurate records
- Maintain and implement an effective risk management plan
- Assist in preparation of capital expenditure recommendations and analysis
- Correspond with customers
- Follow and enforce safe work practices
- Substitute for the Nursery Manager in their absence
- Encourage innovation and continuous improvement
- Promote collaboration and teamwork at all levels
- Set targets (i.e., production, timelines) and evaluate achievement

QualificationsWHAT YOU BRING:
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or diploma in horticulture, agriculture, or forestry (or equivalent experience)
- 3+ years of hands-on experience in bareroot nursery operations, with a proven track record of leadership and team management.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills, with the ability to make sound judgments under pressure.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite and a willingness to learn our proprietary inventory management and shipping system.
- A genuine passion for growing things and a deep understanding that this is a way of life, not a 9-to-5 job.
