Recreation Program Staff

Town of Tillsonburg is looking for three (3) enthusiastic Recreation Program Staff to join our busy Tillsonburg Community Center team. The successful candidate will be responsible for effective supervision and instruction in recreation programming/program areas. Programming/program areas include, but is not limited to, youth programs, day camps, public skates and Health Club facilities.

Department: Recreation, Culture and Parks
Reports To: Programs Supervisor
Hourly rate: $16.55/hour
Weekly hours: up to 20 hours
Start date: as soon as possible
End date: August 31, 2025
This position has the option to enroll in OMERS defined pension plan.
Criminal Record Check is required for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate recreation activities and help ensure programming is inclusive and adaptable.
  • Provide instruction for recreation programs.
  • Closely monitor participants' conduct and provide ongoing supervision.
  • Take admissions and maintain program attendance records.
  • Open and close the Health Club, including shifts as early as 5:30am, and as late as 9:00pm.
  • Prioritize and ensure participant well-being, safety, and protection. Evaluate situations of potential risk proactively taking mitigating actions to address them.
  • Organize and assist with set-up and clean-up of program areas and activities.
  • Maintain safe, clean and organized recreation areas. Fill out cleaning and program logs where applicable.
  • Regularly engage with program participants and members, enforcing rules where needed and providing education on proper program etiquette.
  • Ensure all program participants are registered and/or adhering to correct membership, passes and payment procedures.
  • Supervision of public skates, including on ice duties and admissions
  • Communicates program supply and equipment needs to Program Coordinator/Supervisor as required.
  • Prepare and implement assigned activities with the use of program plans.
  • Attend all schedule staff meetings and training sessions.
  • Follow all Town policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications

  • High School Student
  • Standard First Aid with CPR Level C or the ability to obtain it
  • HIGH FIVE training in the Principles of Healthy Child Development; Principles in Action; Healthy Mind, Healthy Child or the ability to obtain it.
  • Skills in facilitating activities including crafts, sports, dance, gymnastics, skating and day camp programming. *Preference will be given to applicants who highlight these skills*
  • Software experience; ability to learn new programs and procedures
  • Experience working with children.
  • Excellent customer service and time management skills.
  • Hard working, motivated and reliable - with the ability to attend work regularly and punctually.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and accept and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to swim and skate are preferred.
  • Ability to attend all orientation and training sessions.
  • Availability to work evenings and on weekends.
