PRIMARY OBJECTIVE

The Ottawa Senators Youth League showcases fun and free-flowing hockey without stoppages, face-offs, or coaches. Participants can expect fast-paced scrimmages of 3on3 or 4on4 with music during all games.

The Youth League Facilitator is responsible for ensuring the safety, care and enjoyment of the participants in the Ottawa Senators Youth League at the Bell Sensplex or Richcraft Sensplex.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Ongoing Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for ensuring the safety, enjoyment, and care of the participants.
  • As an on-ice official, facilitate the rules of the game:
    • Ensure there is a line change every 90 seconds at the sound of the buzzer.
    • Retrieve the puck at the sound of the buzzer then re-enter the puck into play when players have changed.
    • Any off-sides, icing, puck out of play, or puck frozen by goalie results in a change of possession of the puck.
    • Any penalty results in a penalty shot
  • Responsible for engaging the participants to contribute to their experience playing hockey.

Health & Safety Responsibilities and Accountabilities

Responsible for ensuring that all areas covered by Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHSA) are adhered to, specifically:

  • Accessibility for Ontarians with Disability (AODA), Customer Service Standards
  • AODA, the Integrated Accessibility Standards
  • Ontario Worker Health & Safety Awareness
  • Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS)
  • WHMIS 2015 (GHS)
  • Violence and Harassment in the Workplace

Training

Responsible for completing on-line training modules as required, including, but not limited to:

  • Working in compliance with the provisions of the OHSA, regulations and internal policies and procedures
  • Using or wearing protective equipment, devises or clothing when required
  • Reporting any missing or defective equipment or protective device which could endanger himself or herself or another team member
  • Reporting any contravention of the OHSA, regulations or Senators Sports & Entertainment policies and procedures

May also be required to attend on-site training sessions as scheduled.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Able to work flexible hours
  • Able to work under pressure and adapt to changing environments
  • Must be comfortable and enjoy working with children
  • Previous hockey/skating experience at a high level
  • Professional demeanor
  • Must be at least 15 years of age
  • Strong teaching skills
  • Excellent communication skills, bilingual (French & English) an asset
  • Strong work ethic
  • First-Aid Training an asset
  • Team player
  • Must provide a clear Police Records Check for service with the vulnerable sector
