Job Brief:

The Instrument and Electrical Apprentice Field Technician will work collaboratively with Journeyman Instrument and Electrical Technicians, as well as fellow apprentices. This role offers hands-on training to develop practical skills in testing, calibrating, installing, repairing, and inspecting both manufacturing equipment and monitoring devices across instrumentation and electrical systems.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Learn to read and interpret P&ID, electrical, mechanical, and architectural drawings, along with electrical code specifications.
  • Assist with the installation of process control and measurement instrumentation on existing and new field equipment, including transmitters, controllers, analyzers, control valves, and electrical systems.
  • Perform mechanical work related to instrument repair and modification, including the removal and installation of small piping, tubing, and electrical components.
  • Rebuild control valves, tune controllers, and assist with the installation, maintenance, and repair of chemical pumps and electrical systems.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance on instrumentation, including calibration, replacement, and testing as necessary; maintain accurate field instrument records and standards.
  • Utilize pressure and electrical test equipment to troubleshoot systems and ensure the integrity and safety of circuits. - Participate in and comply with company safety programs and policies.
  • Provide on-call support as required.
  • Other duties as required.

Required Skills/Qualifications:

  • Registered Apprentice, preferred.
  • Standard First Aid/CPR with AED; H2S Alive, CSO, CSTS.
  • Experience in oil and gas is an asset.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug and alcohol test (required for safety-sensitive roles).
  • Completion of a criminal background check, with results assessed based on relevance to the position.
  • Verification of a clean driving record, as defined by Control Tech's standards (e.g., no major violations, no more than 3 infractions in the past 5 years).
