Service Writer

The Service Writer will work in a fast-paced environment where you will be the first point of contact for all customers on the phone or in person. Reporting to the Service Manager, this role offers challenges as you'll have a chance to work with the latest technology, giving you an opportunity to showcase your skills and experience. If you are an independent problem-solver with a passion for the industry, we want you to be a valuable member of the GreatWest Kenworth team.

Your day to day will include:

  • Working closely with Service Manager and Shop Foreman for smooth day to day operation of the scheduling and flow of the shop

  • Handle customer service complaints, issues, requests, and questions

  • Keeping pertinent notes regarding truck problems and their information to pass on to the Shop Foreman

  • Open new work orders

  • Ensure that there are no open work orders- monitor, track and maintain the open R/O report

  • Book appointments and load shop correctly as discussed with shop foreman.

  • Keep customers updated as needed regarding repairs going on in the shop.

  • Upsell additional work if required

  • Research estimates as requested.

  • Filing, processing paperwork and closing orders (general department paper flow)

  • Coordinating Warranty R/O report

  • Communicate with teams (service writer, service administrator, lead hand, foreman, service manager, service director) when managing their job duties and solving problems.

Key Skills and Experience Requirements:

  • Excellent customer service skills

  • High School Diploma

  • Proficient computer skills a must, Experience with Microsoft Office

  • Previous Service Administrator, Writer, or Consultant experience an asset

  • Some knowledge in the heavy truck industry an asset

  • Mechanical background an asset

  • DSI and Decisiv experience an asset

Other Related Skills:

  • Be able to speak, read, write, and comprehend to ensure effective communication with employees and customers.

  • General computer and software diagnostics skills.

  • The ability to withstand work-related deadlines and pressures.

  • Must be able to sit, kneel, lift, walk, and carry for extended periods.

  • Must be able to travel to the US for additional technical training
