Transit Coordinator
PWTransit is currently seeking a full-time Transit Coordinator for its Port Alberni operation. Some travel may also be required to our West Coast Transit operation in Tofino and Ucluelet (expenses reimbursed for travel).
This highly rewarding and engaging opportunity is tailor-made for an experienced operator or industry professional with a focus on customer service and passenger satisfaction. Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will coordinate/organize the day-to-day operations of transit systems operating in both Port Alberni and the West Coast (Tofino and Ucluelet), including providing guidance/assistance and administrative/dispatch support to a group of approximately 20 Transit Operators. The work schedule for this position will be Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm.
Salary: $50,000 to $54,000 per year
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- A combination of several years' experience as a Transit Operator and some Supervisory experience is preferred; however, a candidate with several years of experience in Administration and/or Supervision in a related field would be considered
- Experience in electronic information handling technology such as Dispatch software is considered an asset
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, and ability to navigate various web-based programs
- Demonstrated aptitude for conflict resolution and customer service
- Ability to handle stressful situations in a composed manner
- Customer service focus
- Detailed knowledge of Port Alberni; knowledge of Tofino and Ucluelet an asset
- Organization and ability to multi-task
- Diplomacy and tact
Responsibilities:
- Provide support/guidance for Transit Operators via the dispatch/control centre, as well as in the field when required
- Answer transit-related phone calls and deal with customers in the transit office during office hours
- Monitor radio communications and transit system activity and respond to day-to-day on road operational issues, ensuring transit policy is adhered to and passengers are transported safely and efficiently
- Coordinate/organize transit lost and found and assist in returning items to customers
- Perform audits/checks of on-time performance and report on same
- Ensure operating procedures are adhered to
- Dispatch and make temporary changes to routing, driver and vehicle assignments as required by traffic, capacity, breakdowns or road and weather conditions
- Prepare daily operator work and run schedules while being mindful of Company and/or partners' goals and objectives
- Prepare daily vehicle assignments, and communicate with maintenance department
- Initiate emergency assistance procedures in the event of vehicle collisions or passenger injuries
- Ensure that incident/collision reports are completed when required
- In the event of major incidents involving damage to Buses, Transit Facilities, injuries to passengers, or potential media exposure the Transit Coordinator will ensure that the incidents are communicated up the chain of command immediately, including contacting the 24-hour Emergency Line
- Maintain a daily log of events including, but not limited to, missed service, late service, customer concerns, passenger pass ups, and notes to driver records
- Relay messages, memos, information etc. to front-line staff as directed by the Operations Manager
- Maintain records of vehicle mileage, fuel use, repairs and other maintenance expenses, and generate reports as required
- Small Group Safety meetings 2-3 times per month
- Valid Occupational First Aid level 1 is required (will assist in obtaining)
- Yearly Inventories (maintenance)
