The West Fraser High Level OSB plant is looking for willing summer student candidates to come and experience working in our mill. We can offer a varied, exciting and rewarding time with ourselves allowing the right student the opportunity to learn more about the exciting OSB process. The period of hire will be from May to August 2025.
You'll Do:
- Handling and lifting materials
- Assist other processing workers
- Perform preventative maintenance on safety devices including eyewash stations, fire extinguishers, AEDs, and risers
- Perform spark watch activities (monitoring welding and other hot work, to ensure a fire does not occur and to immediately address any incipient fires that start as the result of hot work)
- Perform confined space watch to ensure safety of those working in confined spaced and immediately respond to any issues
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, adhering to safety and environmental guidelines
- Complete general mill housekeeping, including sweeping, cleaning, and removing debris from work area
- Use compressed air or water hoses to aid in cleaning equipment
- Assist other team members and departments as required, to ensure smooth operations
- Strict adherence to company safety standards and follow safe work practices such as Lock-out, Pre-task hazard assessments, etc.
- Standing for extended periods
Eligibility requirements are as follows:
- Minimum 18 years of age
- High School Diploma
- Enrolled in a further education program (proof required)
- Students should be residents of High Level
- Students must be taking a minimum of three courses in each semester and returning to a full course load in the fall
- Ability to work a variety of shift schedules
- Reliable transportation
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work in a physically demanding environment, and perform repetitive tasks such as climbing stairs, lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods
- Able to safely lift / carry items of various size / weight
- Ability to work in a fast-paced noisy environment, with varying temperatures across the mill
