Nestled between the communities of Elora and Fergus is the new 152,000 sq ft. Groves Memorial Community Hospital that backs on to the Elora Cataract Trailway and offers a modern, bright, healing environment. Our brand-new hospital is a 44-bed acute care facility has two state-of-the-art operating rooms, three L&D rooms (approx. 500 deliveries/year), CT scanner and 24-7 emergency department.
Our system is comprised of two day-time hospitalists, and one nocturnist for full 24h comprehensive coverage. We are a friendly, collegial group who are currently building this program. We are a great spot for newer grads and seasoned hospitalists alike!
It will be the inpatient physician team's responsibility to admin patients to the hospital, round, discharge, meet with the multidisciplinary team to create safe discharge plans, and work closely with our inpatient specialists.
The inpatient team will be responsible for:
- All hospital admissions, discharges and daily rounding for all medical patients
- Attending daily multidisciplinary rounds
- Responding to codes (ACLS required)
- Accompanying patients on transfer to higher level hospitals if required.
- Learners: at least one provider of the 3 on for each 24h period should be willing to work with learners; adjunct professorship not required, but available through McMaster if interested
- It will be the responsibility of the provider to arrange for coverage in unable to work the week they are assigned.
Hospitalist:7 day rotations*, start days Saturdays or -Mondays, hours 0700-1800h with dedicated handover time from 0700-0730 and 1730-1800h. Minimum census 18 (cap per provider up to 25). Stipend of $500/d if contracted and $400/d if casual + FFS (average daily $1500+).
Nocturnist: 7 day rotations, start night Sunday, hours 1730-0700h, with dedicated handover from 0700-0730 and 1730-1800h. Minimum census 10. Stipend of $800/night (regardless of contracting) + FFS (projected average of $2000+).
Scheduling is based on an 8 week rotation; sign on options include:
- Casual: be on a list of providers willing to provide any amount of coverage should scheduled provider (hospitalist/nocturnist) not be able to work their assigned week. Please note: this is not a contracted position.
- Split week: partner with another provider to do either 3 or 4 days in a week on a set interval (either 1 in 4, 1 in 5, 1 in 6, 1 in 7, or 1 in 8 weeks) either as a daytime hospitalist or a nocturnist. Please note: these are contracted positions.
- Full week coverage in a set interval - either as hospitalist (days) OR nocturnist (nights), or any combination of the two.
- Part time: 1 in 8, 1 in 7, 1 in 6, or 1 in 5 weeks
- Full time: 1 in 4, 1 in 3, or 1 in 2 weeks

Our Team:
We are a transitioning hospitalist-run inpatient service with excellent FM-ER support and relationship. We have onsite social work, physio, SLP, RT, HCC, a geriatrics emergency management (GEM) team, general surgery, internal medicine and OBGYN all available to support you.
Our hospital does not have an ICU and hospitalists are not responsible for any vented patients. An ER physician is always in-house and available to assist with codes. Our Obstetrics & neonates are covered by a separate group of physicians. We have no pediatric inpatients.
