Your New Role:
Collaborating with the Estimating Manager and team, you will be responsible for developing budgets and cost estimates for small to medium-sized projects. You will also build and maintain strong relationships with clients and suppliers while preparing estimating deliverables aligned with the proposal strategy.
We are looking for an Estimator with expertise in ICI and/or civil construction to join our team. In this role, you will be pivotal in providing accurate cost estimates, ensuring competitive bids, and supporting the successful delivery of projects. You will work closely with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors to create detailed, reliable estimates.
This is a full-time, permanent position based in our Arnprior, ON office. The role will involve occasional on-site visits across Eastern and Northern Ontario as required.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
While the Senior Estimator is responsible for a multitude of duties, the main functions include:
- Ensure compliance with all Sullivan policies and procedures.
- Leads small to medium estimates or components of large estimates and reviews all associated bid documents.
- Conducts detailed analysis of contract documents and specifications to determine and validate overall project requirements.
- Ensures the completion of full quantity take-offs of all labor, equipment, and materials from project documents.
- Supports the estimate lead by populating tender forms, generating requests for information, anticipating proposal requirements, and assisting to establish a pursuits schedule.
- Recognizes risks related to project specific requirement, site, schedule and market conditions/constraints. Uses contract terms to identify risks and opportunities.
- Assists with bid document control by documenting, organizing, and archiving all information relating to the estimate for successful transfer to the project team.
- Performs bid-day assignments and supports other estimators to successfully close various scopes.
- Develops and maintains strong relationships with all stakeholders including lead estimator, lead bid runner, subtrade partners and suppliers.
- Solicits competitive pricing from subtrade partners and suppliers for pursuit
support. - Assist in the construction of a critical path schedule for the estimate/pursuit.
Health, Safety, and Environmental:
- Adheres to all safety procedures and regulatory compliance.
- Communicates and enforces safety standards in conjunction with the Health, Safety, and Environmental Officer.
Quality:
- Adheres to all processes and procedures in the Sullivan Integrated Management System (S-IMS).
- Ensures the quality of produced efforts reflects the Sullivan quality standards core values.
What You Will Need to Succeed:
- Bachelor's degree or diploma in related discipline or trade experience or equivalent.
- 3 years of progressive experience in construction cost estimating, and/or 5 years on-site experience is preferred.
- Successfully led pursuits valued at up to $10 million in various delivery methods.
- Experience with self-perform estimate and productivity understanding.
- General construction knowledge; understands specifications, drawings, materials, methods and procedures.
- Intermediate knowledge of key principles involved in bid preparation, including quantity takeoff procedures and systems, subtrade partner procurement, pricing, interdepartmental functions, general expense philosophy and bid-closing procedures.
- Familiar with different delivery methods: hard bid, guaranteed maximum price (GMP), unit price, design-build, target prices, and cost reimbursable.
- Bilingualism is considered an asset.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Level II Secret Government clearance.

- Ability to communicate with project team, subtrades, consultants and owner; understand the issues and be an active participant in the preconstruction process.
