Occupying traditional territories that span from Cortes Island to Toba Inlet, the Klahoose Nation has existed since time before memory. Our primary village site, Squirrel Cove, is home to approximately eighty-five full-time residents who live and work on Cortes Island and in the surrounding areas. The remaining three hundred plus members reside in off reserve coastal communities in the lower mainland, and Washington State.

The Klahoose First Nation is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Temporary Full-Time Custodian to maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards in our multipurpose building.

Purpose

This is a temporary position to cover the duties of the current incumbent, whose return date is unknown. The successful candidate will be responsible for cleaning and sanitizing offices, hallways, kitchens, bathrooms, gym areas, and other common spaces, ensuring the facility is safe, welcoming, and presentable.

Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Infrastructure & Development Manager, the duties and responsibilities of the Custodian include, but are not limited to, the following:

Cleaning and Sanitizing:

  • Clean and disinfect all surfaces, including desks, countertops, tables, and high-touch areas.
  • Sweep, mop, vacuum, and dust offices, hallways, and other areas as required.
  • Empty and properly dispose of trash and recycling.
  • Clean and sanitize restrooms, replenishing supplies such as soap, paper towels, and toilet paper.
  • Assist with housing related janitorial services, as needed.
  • Assist with landscaping duties around the community building, if requested.

Specialized Areas:

  • Maintain cleanliness and functionality of the kitchen, including counters, sinks, and appliances.
  • Ensure the gym and fitness areas are clean and equipment is wiped down and sanitized.

General Duties:

  • Ensure equipment receives regular service as required, This includes ensuring all filters are changed regularly on vacuums, dryers, etc, and that all equipment is kept in good repair.
  • Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) for cleaning, safety, and equipment use.
  • Report maintenance or repair needs promptly to the appropriate personnel.
  • Secure cleaning supplies and equipment after use.
  • Adhere to health and safety regulations, including the safe use of cleaning chemicals and personal protective equipment (PPE).

Education and Work Experience:

  • Previous experience in janitorial, custodial, or cleaning roles preferred.
  • Knowledge of cleaning techniques, supplies, and equipment.
  • Physical ability to perform manual tasks, including lifting up to 25 lbs, bending, and standing for extended periods.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • The Janitorial Associate will work indoors, moving between different areas of the multipurpose building. This role requires attention to cleanliness, safety, and the ability to adapt to the specific needs of the facility.
  • Must be able to obtain a satisfactory Criminal Records check.
