Veterinary Purchasing Co. Ltd. (VP) located in St. Marys, Ontario, a 25 min drive from north London, is the largest Veterinary Owned Distributor in Ontario with annual revenues over $600 million. Our primary purpose is to ensure that Veterinarians have the supplies they need to provide healthcare to our furry friends. We are currently looking to add a dynamic individual within our Finance department for the full-time position of:

Financial Controller

This individual will be responsible for the day-to-day activities, managing the department, analyzing and establishing accounting processes. You must have advanced MS Excel skills, with a focus on high quality and delivery of results. Strong attention to detail with service first mentality. Proactive solutions-oriented problem-solving skills, with strong business acumen.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Supervising, coaching and mentoring finance and administrative staff members
  • Accounts Payable review and approve expenditures, maximize discounts taken, process and authorize EFT payments
  • Accounts Receivable review of daily deposits and aging reports, as well as assist with collection of outstanding accounts
  • Pricing supervise pricing clerk while ensuring standard cost is accurate and analyze sales margin by product classification. Review/reconcile price increases and updates
  • Perform month end closing by entering and approving journal entries
  • Assist with budgeting and forecasting processes
  • General ledger account reconciliations
  • Responsible for the accuracy and timeliness of financial information
  • Prepare monthly financial statements for review and approval by Senior Manager, Finance
  • Lead the year-end audit by preparing working papers and working with external auditors
  • Prepare government filings and remittances / Annual reconciliations of EHT and WSIB
  • Monthly bank reconciliation of multiple accounts daily monitoring of account balances.
  • Manage foreign exchange transactions
  • With input from the Senior Finance Manager, development and implementation of internal controls with respect to financial policies, processes and procedures.
  • Co-ordination of government audits
  • Communicating and working with other departments
  • Provide advice and guidance on accounting matters including financial systems, record keeping, analysis and reporting

  • Other related duties as required or assigned

  • Works in compliance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act
  • Conducts self with regard for safety of employees; is aware of safety and evacuation procedures
  • Report any health & safety violations or hazards to your supervisor

Good manufacturing practices:

  • Follow and understand all relevant Standard Operating Procedures with respect to Good Manufacturing Practices

Skills and knowledge required:

  • University degree in Business/Accounting
  • Progressing towards or already designated as CPA
  • Minimum five years accounting experience which includes supervision of a team
  • Proficient communication, interpersonal and organizational skills are vital to the role
  • Good accounting knowledge with advanced excel skills is a must
  • Knowledge of ERP computer systems an asset
  • Ability to adapt and learn new software
  • Ability to work efficiently as part of a team as well as independently
  • Financial analysis, budgeting and some strategic planning experience

Schedule: Monday to Friday 8:30am 5pm (onsite)
