POSITION: Step-Up Tutor
JOB TYPE: Continuing Part-time
WAGE: $20-25/hr
Hours of Work: Regular hours for this position will be 7 hours per week (Generally Saturday 8:30-4:30with a 1-hour lunch break). Temporary additional hours up to 35 hours per week may be offered during July and August.

PROGRAM SUMMARY:
The Step-Up Tutoring program supports students to maintain and strengthen their literacy and numeracy skills. Step-Up provides an engaging one-on-one tutoring experience in a casual environment. The tutors work on each students specific learning needs as identified by their teachers or their parents. This program was only offered during summer to help students avoid summer slide during school break, but we are now offering it year-round. The position is intended to be full time through the summer (35 hours/week), subject to funding approval.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The tutor is responsible for planning and delivering the lessons to help students achieve their learning goals.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Create lesson plans based on the students goals.
Meet with assigned students and spend a scheduled amount of time working on the
subjects designated in the learning plan.
Evaluate and document student's progress, challenges and achievements during each
lesson.
Prepare monthly progress report and submit to your supervisor.
Participate in staff meetings, meetings with teachers and parents.
Perform other related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- The position is suitable for retired teachers, university students and senior high school students who are passionate about teaching young learners.
- Related post-secondary training and/or tutoring experience would be considered an asset.
SKILLS & ABILITIES
Self-directed and works well independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Self-motivated, well organized and detail-orientated with the ability to prioritize.
Excellent critical thinking, problem solving and organizational skills.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Regularly scheduled hours of work between Monday and Saturday.
Office environment with routine office procedures.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Be familiar with and adhere to the philosophy, policies and procedures of the Association.
Represent the Association positively and professionally at all times.
Understand and be committed to terms of confidentiality and sign a pledge of
confidentiality.
Undergo a Criminal Record Search as and when required by the Association
Actively participate in regular performance evaluations.
