Niigaaniin is looking for a someone to fill out dual role as a Customer Service Representative with our ServiceOntario Team, and Receptionist at Enji-maawinjidiyaang, Niigaaniin's Indigenous Friendship Center (IFC) in Elliot Lake.

Hours: Minimum 28 hours/week, including RotatingShifts, Travel, Evenings and Saturdays.

Location: Serpent River First Nation & Elliot Lake

Purpose:

Under the direction of the Associate Director, the employee will provide support to both our Service Ontario Location and our Indigenous Friendship Center (IFC). Within the scope of ServiceOntario the Customer Service Representative provides the full scope of programs and services under ServiceOntario to community members residing on or traveling through the Robinson Huron Treaty Area. This position provides relief and fill in support to the team of Customer Services Representatives. Niigaaniin Services IFC, Enji-maawinjidiyaang, is a place were all community members can gather and attend programs and activities; you will be the first face that members see as they enter Enji-maawinjidiyaang greeting anyone who walks in to join the fun!

Requirements:

  • It is preferred for the applicant to be a registered band member of the First Nations serviced by Niigaaniin Services, including Batchewana First Nation, Garden River First Nation, Thessalon First Nation, Mississauga First Nation, Serpent River First Nation, Sagamok Anishnawbek, Atikameksheng Anishnawbek, and Wahnapitae First Nation,
  • Financial record-keeping skills and ability to handle cash and carry out accurate financial transactions for community members;
  • Must have a clear Criminal Reference Check and Vulnerable Peoples Sector Check applicable to the responsibilities of this position,
  • Must be able to pass clear Security Clearance,
  • Must be Proficient in MS Office Applications, Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook and internet,
  • Drivers license required and upon hiring a Drivers Abstract, and
  • Must own or have access to a vehicle to travel to and from both work site locations.

Knowledge;

  • Knowledge and understanding of Anishnaabemowin, culture and traditions of Indigenous people of the Robinson Huron Treaty,
  • Knowledge of Service Ontario programs, services, processes, procedures, guidelines, and directives/legislation would be an asset;
  • General knowledge of government services and programs at the municipal, provincial and federal level,
  • Knowledge and familiarity with community services networks and knowledge the Niigaaniin Services would be an asset.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to provide an optimum level of service to community members and be fully responsive to their needs;
  • Ability to actively listen, and be empathetic, sensitive, and patient with community members,
  • Ability to remain composed, convey understanding, and address customers in a respectful manner when resolving difficult situations;
  • Ability to be flexible and adapt to meet the needs of a broad, diverse community base whose service,
  • Ability to work in a performance-based system with a proven track record of meeting targets and outcomes is essential,
  • Superior oral and written communication skills, excellent time management skills with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment,
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure that forms are completed fully and accurately and that service and transaction requirements are met by the customer;
  • Strong planning and organization skills to organize and prioritize workload; and to respond to unforeseen demands;
  • Ability to gather information and use research methods, techniques, and tools to identify, source and compile information for customers;
  • Ability maintain, organize data and information in databases; and to store, file and retrieve electronic and paper-based information, including stock management;
  • Ability to implement analytical methods and techniques to probe for information and determine customer objectives, needs, requests or concerns; to assess situations or circumstances, and determine appropriate courses of action; and to discern facts in order to detect incidents of suspected fraud or other irregularities,
  • Requires minimum supervision, able to work independently and maintains a supportive and cooperative environment with colleagues and the communities, and
  • Ability to drive a truck with trailing would be an asset,
  • Ability to work with a diverse population.
