The Manager of Education will help to provide the vision and support the growth of FortWhyte Alives Education programs. Overseeing the Education team, this person will be responsible for day-to-day department operations and mentorship while working collaboratively with the Director of Education and Youth Programs to establish and meet strategic goals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provides overall leadership to all direct reports including mentoring, onboarding, and coaching for performance
- Collaborate on the hiring of new education team staff
- Work with the Director of Education and Youth Programs and Human Resources Manager with regards to employment relations
- Guide and oversee the seasonal training for staff and school program volunteers
- Collaborate with the Director of Education and Youth Programs to develop the yearly Education department budget. Monitor revenues and expenses of the program throughout the year
- Assist in implementing grant projects including initiating and completing grant activities, preparing written reports/applications and meeting with the Director of Education and Youth Programs to report on project status
- Seek new streams of revenue generating activities. Scaling current programming, developing community partnerships and researching grant opportunities
- Organize weekly education team meetings and manage staff assignments for program delivery
- Support effective and efficient program development and delivery for the education team by mentoring of team members and guiding them in managing individual work projects as needed
- Deliver educational workshops, presentations, and programs on behalf of FortWhyte Alive
- Liaise with the Bookings Administrator and Manager of Volunteer Resources on the feasibility of program delivery as needed
- Collect program surveys and manage feedback on program delivery and teacher/volunteer evaluations to continue to improve programs. Consult with the Director of Education and Youth Programs regarding visitor feedback
- Collaborate with the education community and community partners to ensure that FortWhyte Alives programs continue to meet the needs of community stakeholders
- Liaise with the Communications Team on Education department needs including the Teachers Club newsletter, school brochure, and updates to the education website
- Coordinate site lock-up schedule
Qualifications:
- University/college degree in Biological/Natural Sciences, Education, History/Geography, Recreation or Natural Resources Management or relevant experience
- Knowledge of Manitoba flora and fauna, Manitoba ecosystems and emerging environmental issues
- Ability to guide, monitor and lead a dynamic team
- Proven initiative and problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a dynamic and flexible environment
- Strong organizational and communication skills, when dealing with coworkers and the public
- Exceptional ability to work cooperatively with other team members and to lead groups of youth
- Ability to develop and facilitate programming a variety of ages and abilities
- Satisfactory background checks of the child abuse registry and criminal records is required
- Knowledge of Indigenous culture and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission
- Certification in First Aid, CPR an asset
