The Opportunity

As a Senior Counsellor, you will play a key role in shaping the experience of our campers. You will supervise and lead cabin groups, delivering a variety of fun, engaging, and safe activities for children aged 5-16. In this fast-paced and dynamic environment, you will help campers build confidence, learn new skills, and develop lasting friendships. Responsibilities

  • Supervise and provide child care for cabins of up to 8 children, ensuring a safe, engaging, and respectful environment.
  • Plan, organize, and lead daily camp activities, including cabin activities, camp-wide events, and interest groups.
  • Provide leadership in specific camp activities, such as free swim, outdoor games, and team-building exercises.
  • Participate actively in camp operations, including lifeguarding, cleaning, first aid, and other camp duties.
  • Ensure all programming adheres to YMCA and New Brunswick Child Care standards, fostering a positive, child-centered environment.
  • Comply with YMCA Healthy Child Development Program principles and incorporate them into daily activities.
  • Support the Camp Director and other staff with additional operational tasks as required.
  • Be a positive role model in all aspects of camp life, including behavior, speech, and relationships with campers and fellow staff.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Ongoing or completed Bachelors degree, Community College diploma, or similar qualification from an accredited institution.
  • Previous experience in a camp or youth program setting.
  • Wilderness or Standard First Aid training or willingness to obtain.
  • Camp certifications (NLS, Waterfront, Canoe/Kayak, Pleasure Craft Operator, CUI) are considered assets.
  • Flexibility regarding working hours and job locations.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently.
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and customer service skills.
  • Social Development Clearance Check.
  • First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Employment is contingent on clean Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search and Social Development Clearance Check.
