POSITION OVERVIEW

Lauren Services is seeking a highly skilled Electrical Design Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing electrical systems for industrial facilities, particularly within the oil and gas, power, and petrochemical sectors. This role requires expertise in electrical design using tools such as BlueBeam and the ability to collaborate effectively with drafters to provide full redlines. The Electrical Design Engineer will create designs and layouts that meet client specifications, ensuring integration with other disciplines, and will guide the electrical design across medium to large-scale projects.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Design and develop electrical systems, including power distribution, control, and protection systems, using BlueBeam and other design tools.
  • Prepare detailed electrical system designs, calculations, material specifications, and equipment lists in accordance with client requirements, industry standards, and codes.
  • Produce single-line diagrams, schematics, and control panel designs, ensuring all drawings are accurate and up-to-date.
  • Provide design redlines and revisions to drafting personnel, ensuring designs reflect the most current specifications.
  • Work closely with project teams to gather design requirements and coordinate the electrical design with other engineering disciplines, ensuring project alignment.
  • Conduct power system studies, area classification, and provide equipment recommendations (e.g., MCCs, VFDs, PLCs, switchgear).
  • Execute and monitor engineering scope for assigned projects, ensuring adherence to schedules and budgets.
  • Develop and review material specifications, technical datasheets, and procurement documentation for electrical components.
  • Review and verify vendor documentation, ensuring compliance with project specifications and quality standards.
  • Provide support during the construction phase, offering technical expertise and resolving any design-related issues that arise in the field.
  • Collaborate with other disciplines (e.g., mechanical, civil, and instrumentation) to ensure integrated solutions.
  • Maintain adherence to health, safety, and quality management policies and practices throughout the project lifecycle.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • 4-8 years of experience in electrical design engineering, specifically in the oil and gas, power, or petrochemical industries.
  • Proficiency in BlueBeam and other design software for creating and reviewing electrical system layouts and providing redlines.
  • Licensed or eligible for licensing as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in BC or AB (licensing in both provinces is an asset).

SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES

  • Strong technical background with the ability to produce high-quality electrical designs and layouts.
  • Proficiency in BlueBeam for generating electrical system designs, reviewing drawings, and providing redline revisions.
  • Knowledge of industry standards, codes (e.g., CEC), and best practices in electrical design.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate with project managers, site managers, and clients.
  • Capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously, balancing design, scheduling, and technical requirements.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex electrical design issues and provide innovative solutions.
  • Experience mentoring junior engineers and drafting personnel to ensure high-quality engineering standards.
